As it was a Birthday Meal just after Christmas and the only vegetables are Brussels. It was slightly disappointing.

Poor atmosphere, place was empty with only two other tables,
Asked to be seated in the atrium area, and put in the corner, despite plenty of empty tables.
Ordered tea for two and came in two tiny cups (considering it was champagne breakfast expected a tea pot).
Husband had to ask for the champagne.
No choice of how you would like eggs, pastries were very dry & hard.
Two waiters serving one smashed glasses, the other to busy admiring his own reflection in the mirror.
Disappointed overall and would not probably go again for breakfast.

I booked the pre theatre special for 2 people at 17:45 on Fri 31st March - 2 courses for ÂŁ18 each. We were greeted warmly and giving a choice of tables. Wanting mains & puds we opted for breads and dips to share. We were presented with fresh warm home made olive & sun dried tomatoe bread, butter, oil, roasted garlic & onion chutney. Yummy as it was it was enough to feed 4. We both ordered lamb rump - in season, very good & served on a bed of veg medley - very tasty. My partner asked for hers not to be too pink which was accommodated. Sides were an addition charge which we didn't go for. I had a glass of Chianti and table water. If we hadn't if has the bread you would definitely need side/sides to accompany. Deserts followed - chocolate cherry tart for my partner, cheese board for me. The board was again huge & comfortably enough for 2. Another glass of Chianti accompanied the cheese. The bill was just less than ÂŁ60. This left me feeling that the offer was somewhat miss leading as there are plenty of additional extras. In summary, service was good albeit a little slow at times due to the time in the evening with one person front of house. Food, very good. A little pricey for a pre theatre trip.

Food was lovely at Restaurant Zest well presented and tasted fabulous. Was slightly disappointed that there was no mushroom starter option. The beef fillet was fab and the Zest mess beautiful. It's a lovely place and some better background music would have got it a full 5 star rating from me.

Fantastic meal, we took advantage of the early evening menu so good quality food at a reasonable price. The goats cheese salad starter was lovely, my friend had the fish cake starter and said it was very tasty. The chocolate Torte - "chocolate soil' was rich and a perfect finish to the meal. Nicely presented food. All the staff were very friendly & welcoming and made you feel relaxed. Our waiter Josh M was fantastic , at first we thought he was possibly the manager on duty as he was very knowledgable about the menus and made as feel very at ease, thank you Josh. This was our first visit to Zest and will definitely be going back.

Visited Restaurant Zest for an impromptu pre theatre dinner, and timing was spot on. Food was delicious and very filling, wine perfectly matched and great value from what I would expect from a quality restaurant.

Nice restaurant but when we arrived we were the only people in the front part of the restaurant which didn't make for a very good experience. The food could have been better it was nothing special, the waiter was very friendly and helpful.

I was part of a hen party who had a champagne breakfast at Restaurant Zest. The meal was good value for money, very friendly service and enjoyed by all 12 of the group. The only complaint was a few had the full Derbyshire breakfasts and wondered where the beans were!

First time we have visited the restaurant in it's new setting and it didn't disappoint. Lovely setting, and we dined from the early evening menu which was fantastic value. Highlight was a chicken and ham hock terrine with piccalilli which was fantastic. Service was swift and friendly. Only let down was the baked chocolate mousse for dessert which really, was not a mousse, although still quite tasty.

The food was very nice, although perhaps expected more considering it was fine dining. Service was friendly but unfortunately they seemed a bit under staffed and overwelmed with a full house and because of this the service became a bit slow to clear plates etc. A few things to work on for the future.

My daughter and I enjoyed the meal at Zest on Friday evening. The quality of the food cannot be denied and I would be happy to go back for that quality. The service seemed somewhat slow and when my main meal came, I wondered where the chips had got to so I got on with eating my meat which wasn't over hot. I was half way through the meat by the time the chips came. I booked this meal via Go dine for the pre-theatre 2 course meal at ÂŁ14.95. When I got the bill, the price was showing ÂŁ18.95 per person. I questioned that and after quite a bit of discussion with a member of staff, he reduced my bill to the correct amount. It nearly spoilt what was a lovely meal.

A new location for a well established Derby icon, and what a location. See the other parts of the Old Bell for great drinking and bar food, and Zest is the jewel in the crown. Quality food well presented, with fine dining the watchword.
We'll be back!
