Disappointing. We booked on strength of reviews - atmosphere in restaurant was flat - no festive spirit; food was ok but nothing special. Service was slow; staff forgot to bring ordered drinks; wine bottle was dumped on the table and left unopened without asking if we wanted to taste it. To top it all we had to ask numerous times for someone to bring the card machine so that we could pay the bill, eventually having to ask again on our way out. Staff were indifferent and didn't even offer an apology for the delay, talking amongst themselves while processing the card payment. Would not recommend.

We say…

Situated in the heart of Lincoln city centre, in the Chapel Quarter, is the Wig and Mitre, a delightful British pub-restaurant. Located on Steep Hill, close to venues such as Brown’s Pie Shop and Magna Carta, it is perfectly located for locals and visitors alike.

Open to guests from 8 in the morning, the Wig and Mitre offers respite for those who have climbed, or are about to descend, Steep Hill throughout the day. Situated in a quaint old building, the Wig and Mitre is recognisable by its white frontage. As you step inside you instantly feel at home. The cosy, classic décor is reminiscent of an old cottage. The venue is lit softly and decorated in a palette of neutrals with a splash of British Racing Green.  The downstairs bar features a fireplace and has newspaper clippings adorning the walls. The main dining room is charming with kitsch wallpaper, roof windows and gentle lighting.

The menu is ambitious and this is reflected in the prices. Offering a seasonal British menu that features many local produce items that are delivered fresh daily, diners get a real taste of Lincolnshire. You can expect to find a good range of starters, mains and desserts featuring dishes such as Deep Fried Bread Beef with a blue cheese mayonnaise and a side salad of rocket, Sea Trout with Lincolnshire Poacher and parsley crust with a saffron potato salad and salsa Verde, and the devilishly indulgent Dark Chocolate Terrine with cherries and white chocolate shortbread.

The Wig and Mitre British restaurant in Lincoln is a truly delightful find and guests will find themselves spending hours immersed in the relaxing ambience.
