We say…

Just a short drive south from Derby city centre is the charming countryside village of Ticknall. Formerly home to a number of mines and potteries, the village is now a more quiet and rural affair, with National Trust property Calke Abbey providing one of the main attractions.

Situated on the main road through Ticknall is the delightful traditional pub, The Wheel Inn. Being just a few minutes walk from Calke Abbey, the bright and cosy pub is an ideal place to relax after a country walk with comfy sofas making you feel right at home. The downstairs bar provides a quiet ambience for a chilled afternoon drink and light bites, whilst the restaurant with spacious wooden seating offers home-cooked dishes in front of a warm, open fire.

A wide and varied menu combines local favourites with pub classics such as grilled pork and herb sausages with creamy mash and salad; roasted barbeque chicken breast with mozzarella cheese, chorizo sausage and new potatoes or deep fried cod with crispy beer batter, mushy peas and hand cut chips. A daily specials board focuses on fresh sea food with sea bass, haddock and place regularly on offer. On Sundays, a delicious, full roast with all the trimmings is served between 12 and 3pm.

The Wheel at Ticknall is perfect for those who fancy a quiet meal with friends and family or a chilled lunch after exploring the local countryside with its friendly staff, tasty food and relaxed atmosphere.
