We say…

Former brewery Tetley's recently reopened as a centre for contemporary art, and an important part of the revamp has been The Tetley Bar & Kitchen. A six minute walk from Trinity Leeds and the train station, The Tetley is a historic building steeped in history but perfect for visitors to make the short walk to. Serving up quality British classics that feature Yorkshire produce, The Tetley believes in using locally sourced ingredients to serve up carefully crafted food and putting all the profits made back into the arts programmes that they run.

The restaurant is situated on the ground floor: found when you walk through the original wooden revolving doors and head downstairs. Open plan and roomy, the restaurant has a buzzing atmosphere that's perfect for couples and families. With a retro industrial interior that features reclaimed wood and a rustic blackboard, it's a pleasant dining area that, despite being underground, remains light thanks to the many stylish lampshades that line the rows of tables. It's a great blend of old and new, and an impressive restoration.

In terms of the menu, The Tetley delivers on great tasting classics that are stylishly executed. For starters, the portobello mushroom on sourdough toast served with spinach and a poached egg with truffle hollandaise is a favourite. For mains, the sea bream with curried new potatoes, sweet potato puree, radish and cherry tomatoes is delicious, as well as the beef and ale stew with horseradish dumplings and garlic mash. There are plenty of options for vegetarians too: the grilled halloumi with pickled veg starter followed by the beetroot and sweetcorn burger served with fries and onion rings are the perfect pairing. Don't miss out on dessert either: the baked pineapple served with meringue, chocolate and rum sauce and ice cream is the perfect finish to any meal. There are also salad, sandwich, Sunday roast and brunch options, as well as a great children's menu. There really is something for everyone at The Tetley.

The restoration of this historical brewery is certainly welcome news to locals and visitors alike: with a fantastic menu and friendly, knowledgable staff, a visit to The Tetley should definitely be on your to-do list.
