Located in the heart of Derbyshire the quaint little town of Darley Dale houses The Shalimar, just fifteen minutes from Chesterfield and five minutes from Matlock, is , a top-rated fine dining Indian restaurant. The restaurants location on the main through-road through Darley Dale makes it a popular destination for locals, visitors and passers-by. The huge car park and easy location make it ideal for a hassle-free trip into the beautiful town of Matlock or further into the Peak District.
The Shalimar is a pretty establishment that benefits from a frontal al fresco area, perfect for enjoying a cold beer, weather permitting. As you step inside you are greeted by the friendly waiters as you are immersed in to a venue packed with luxurious design features. The colour scheme or rich purple and gold coupled with chandeliers and ornate furniture makes the restaurant a pleasant place to be and offers a more formal dining experience.
With highly skilled Indian chefs, the finest ingredients and well-sourced herbs and spices, the cuisine on offer is truly superb. The menu is vast and offers everything from popular, well-known dishes such as Korma, Dopiaza and Madras, as well as house specialities. The Chefs Recommendations feature unique dishes that are worth a try for those who love experimenting with their dish choices. With items such as the Achari Mazah Special; a special masala packed with spices and herbs including fresh ginger, methi, cumin, seeds and cinnamon with a touch of achari masala, and Shasni Zanyka; an exotic dish with a distinct flavour achieved by cooking in a very sour sauce with fresh cream and just a touch of lemon juice.
The service at The Shalimar Matlock is both courteous and efficient and all dietary or seating requests are catered for without hesitation. It is a truly fantastic venue that promises to be much more than your average Derbyshire ‘curry house’. With a vast restaurant and a good variety of dishes, there is something to suit everyone’s tastes making it ideal for large parties and celebrations.
