We say…

Situated in the bustling town of Alfreton, The School House Restaurant is just off High Street, close to plenty of shops and pubs. The nearby recreational grounds are great if you’ve got kids and want to use up some energy before settling down to your meal. If you’re visiting with friends, spend the morning exploring the nearby shops before your meal or drop in for a pint at The Devonshire Arms. Hugely convenient for locals and with lots to do and see nearby, there are plenty of reasons you might find yourself near The School House Restaurant.

As the name implies, The School House Restaurant is housed within an old school house dating back to 1849. This beautifully historic restaurant is full of character, with plenty of original features, including the corridor leading to the girls and boys washrooms. Open fireplaces create a cosy ambience while exposed brick walls hint at the history of this building. Glance around at beautiful artwork along the walls and enjoy this tranquil venue. The School House is a fantastic place to gather with friends for a midday catch up.

Owned by passionate chef Robert Conway and his partner Emma, the menu here is ever-changing as he explores new flavours and makes use of seasonal ingredients. The menu follows the theme of a school day, beginning with assembly and ending in home time. Begin your meal with a fresh Broccoli and Cheese Soup or enjoy a sweet melon starter with zesty lemon sorbet. If you fancy seafood, order the Pan Fried Tuna Steak for your ‘dinner bell’ course, or opt for a Stuffed Roasted Pepper filled with rich and creamy risotto. ‘Play time’ dishes include plenty of indulgent sweet treats, with dishes such as a Banana and Toffee Cheesecake. Although the dishes here change, everything served is sure to be full of flavour and made with fabulous ingredients.

For flavoursome food in an interesting venue, pop by The School House Restaurant in Alfreton, Derbyshire. Perfect for an intimate meal for two in the evening or a pleasant lunch with friends.
