In Highfield, not far from Sheffield City Centre, sits the Orchid, a restaurant serving authentic Thai Cuisine. A family run restaurant, The Orchid was first established in Bangkok and still have a number of eateries open there.
The dining space is cosy and intimate, with atmospheric lights and mix of contemporary fixtures and authentic Thai décor. The restaurant holds many personal touches and interesting features, including wooden elephants, beautiful greenery and eclectic mirrors.
The menu includes a whole range of delicious, authentic Thai options. Start with appetisers such as Po Pia Tord, vegetarian spring rolls, crispy and deep fried. For a tender chicken option, try the Gai Bai Tuay, deep fried chicken breast marinated and wrapped in pandan leaves. For seafood lovers, the Talay Tord is a great option, a platter of deep fried mixed seafood with Thai herbs and spices. For a lighter meal, try one of the restaurants Thai salads, including Larab Moo/Kai, made from chopped pork or chicken, seasoned with chilli and a blend of Thai herbs. Chef speciality curries are some of the favourites on the menu, including Gaeng Deang, a red Thai curry with chicken, pork or beef, bamboo shoots and chillies, cooked in coconut milk. The Gaeng Massaman Neua is great for curry lovers looking for something different, an authentic curry made with ground peanuts, beef and potatoes. There are an excellent choice of vegetarian dishes too, such as Pud Priew Warn Tao Hoo, a sweet and sour sauce, stir fried with bean curd, herbs and spices. Alongside your meal, try one of the authentic rice or noodle dishes. Often recommended is the Guay Tiew Pud Thai, a very traditional recipe of stir fried rice noodle with succulent prawns and fresh bean sprouts.
