We say…

Near Upppingham, in the scenic Rutland countryside, is the Old White Hart inn. This charming 17th century inn and restaurant is an attraction popular with diners, tourists, and local alike. The village of Lyddington, where the Old White Hart is situated, is a beautiful example of a rural village, and there is the added convenience of being close to the A6003, which makes the area easily accessible from all over central England.

If the weather is permitting, you’ll love dining al fresco on the pebbled terrace outside the main restaurant. Alternatively, the interior bar has plenty of old English charm and character, with low beamed ceilings and wooden panels giving it a cosy, homely atmosphere. Sink down into the vintage sofas and chairs in the bar area, which is filled with interesting pub curios, to enjoy a drink before heading into the main restaurant area complete with a warming log fire and original stone walls.

The menu varies depending on seasonal and local produce, but is always a hit with the regular diners and visitors. Start off with a snack like ham hock terrine with homemade piccalilli, or go for the sticky spiced beef spare ribs, served with a refreshing salad garnish. You can choose from the popular summery salads for your main or starter, served with bread or sauté potatoes, respectively. The salads cater for everyone’s tastes, from smoked brie and baby beetroot to home cured brisket of beef and creamy avocado. For your main course, try the chicken fillet with grilled goats cheese, cashew pesto, roasted parsnips and courgettes and the potatoes of the day for a satisfying and tasty dish. Don’t forget to think about dessert, though, as we’d highly recommend the traditional British puddings like the summer fruit option with lemon iced parfait with a yummy caramel, berry and mint compote.

The Old White Hart at Lyddington is one of Rutland’s most-loved local fixtures. The consistently excellent dishes and friendly environment ensure that you’ll have a relaxing and satisfying experience.
