On arrival at the fox & hounds no reservation had been made. Not impressed.

Fantastic food, great value Sunday lunch and fantastic service!

    all round very good

As indicated in the ratings, a charming old country pub with good food but I was disappointed with the long wait before we were taken to be seated in the restaurant.

The service was a little slow but food was very good.

The food and wine were excellent and the staff were charming and most helpful. This was a wedding anniversary lunch and was well worth every penny!

Great Meal and Setting! Ideal for a romantic meal. Not really for children.

Dining out should be an experience not just another meal and the Fox & Hounds was a little surreal, initially feeling a little awkward the sensation of wandering back in time, almost a rocky horror show meets the slaughtered lamb this stunning building has dark side that was very enriching for me and my wife. Technology was apparent but appropriate, comfort and relaxation was a given and the young barman appeared to know his wines which is a rare treat and an O.K. selection of beers. The food, yes we went there for the food, the steak was a melt in the mouth moment and the lamb was the most tender, with a select selection of sides the pallet was teased and the body was fed to amble satisfaction. Every element of the food matched in some regard the opposite setting, but it worked, old and quirky met modern and finesse in what was an evening to be remembered and we will require a repeat visit.

We say…

In the quaint village of Exton, Rutland, The Fox and Hounds is a beautiful pub, hotel and restaurant full of country charm. Recently completely renovated it now offers an extensive bar, including carefully picked real ales, interesting wines, and a delicious array of modern European food by Head Chef Omar Palazzolo, (formerly La Gavroche, Nobu, Sushi Samba & Tom’s Kitchen).

The Fox and Hounds is a popular local choice for lunch, an evening meal or a relaxing drink, whether indoors or the beautiful deck and garden. Now a boutique hotel it offers beautiful individually styled en suite bedrooms – the ideal place to stay when visiting the beautiful county of Rutland.

The gorgeous building and wonderful surroundings of the restaurant make it a popular venue for special occasions and weddings, with the restaurant offering various packages for small intimate parties or larger celebrations. Catering up to 140 guests, just contact the restaurant to discuss all your requirements. The dining area is spacious and inviting, absolutely bursting with character and rural charm. Exposed stonework and large fireplaces compliment the restaurants and bar lounge settings, with leather armchairs, candelabra and comfy sofas – beautiful surroundings for a meal or celebration. The newly designed Library is the ideal spot for a quiet drink or private meeting. The outdoor seating area is filled with bright greenery and stunning flowers, allowing for a fantastic area for al fresco dining or, when the time comes enjoying the summer evenings with a relaxing drink!

The menu is well put together, offering fresh ingredients which are seasonally and responsibly sourced, creating each dish with a careful blend of flavours. Light bar meals are also on offer, meaning there is something for everyone at the Fox and Hounds.  However we believe it is within the A La Carte menu that the real treats can be found! As an appetizer, choose something stylish yet delicious, such as the nduja, a calabrian style salami with walnuts, honey and seven cereal bread. For something a little different, choose the quail scotch eggs with piccalilli. The available main meals are full of taste and variety- why not try the guinea fowl served with farmhouse cabbage, leek puree and heritage carrots or market fish, a delicious seafood dish with bacon crust, crispy guinea fowl wing, served with maple roasted piccolo parsnip and soured grapes.

A beautiful restaurant with lots to offer, The Fox and Hounds, Rutland is a wonderful option for delicious food and stunning surroundings, absolutely perfect for special occasions.
