We have been going to The Bear Inn for their Sunday Carvery at least once a month since we first discovered it. I believe it's the best carvery in Derbyshire, the meat is always cooked to perfection, the roast potatoes are to die for and the veg and gravy are just perfect every time. The views across the garden are spectacular and we look forwards to visiting for many more years to come!

We say…

Formerly known as the Olde Brown Bear Inn, The Bear Inn has been located at the Birmingham-Derby-Chesterfield-Sheffield turnpike road since 1528 when it was used as a parlour, hall, buttery and kitchen. Since then the venue has undergone huge transformations that has resulted in The Bear Inn becoming a rustic hotel, public house and restaurant on the edge of the Derbyshire’s picturesque Peak District.

The restaurant at The Bear Inn is a housed within the historic building that makes up the hotel and public house. Complete with oak beams, original stonework, polished wooden floors and plenty of light coming in through the huge windows, dining at The Bear Inn is ideal for an intimate dinner for two during a weekend away, a family get-together or a special occasion such as a wedding reception or birthday party! The staff are helpful and friendly and the team are more than able to help you plan and arrange your perfect event.

The team at The Bear Inn pride themselves on their use of local Derbyshire produce and buy locally produced beef, lamb and pork from their butcher at Leasbrook just across the valley. The vegetables are mainly sourced from Wirksworth, ice-cream from Chatsworth and Thornbridge Ales from Ashford in the Water and whilst some ingredients aren’t from the local area, if they can get it in Derbyshire, they will.

The menu has been deemed excessive by some diners but after trying to trim the menu down, the kitchen team realised they were removing dishes, but adding new ones in their place! This sees The Bear Inn producing a menu that will, without a doubt, be able to please even the fussiest eater. With dishes ranging from classic homemade steak and potato pie to lamb rump on a masala mash and a good selection of vegetarian dishes available, you’ll be spoilt for choice!

If you go into the woods today you’re in for a big surprise! You will find a bear but this bear is The Bear Inn; a stunning hotel, pub and restaurant that serves delicious European food using the very best locally sourced Derbyshire produce. A real treat for the tastebuds.
