We say…

The Soul Kitchen is a brand new Caribbean-style restaurant found within the long-established Wardrobe Bar in Leeds. Situated on St Peter’s Square, it's right in the heart of the city centre and is conveniently situated for shoppers, theatre goers and clubbers.

Serving a top-quality drinks menu combined with good service, delicious, locally sourced food, a casual atmosphere and bohemian style, The Wardrobe is one of Leeds' more unique venues. It is packed with character that oozes from every facet. The décor has a loft-style feel to it, with full length glass windows, booth seating as well as long tables for larger groups and hanging light fixtures. It has always been commended for its personal touches and ability to make everything from a party to a meal for two special and memorable.

Downstairs, in the basement club, The Wardrobe hosts regular event nights with the live music being one of the most popular events. Showcasing great music from jazz and funk to soul, reggae, hip-hop and everything in  between, there is an event for to suit every taste. The Wardrobe has played host to some amazing and historic shows and promises to exceed your expectations by providing a dining experience like no other.

The restaurant offers a wide variety of modern soul food, including a great range of Caribbean, Jamaican and American dishes. You can expect to find dishes such as Jamaican crab cakes with a hint of lime and chilli, Cajun coated battered vegetables with green tobacco mayonnaise and American Bingo Wings for starters. The mains steal the show with the rich and colourful Creole jambalaya, the perfectly-cooked whole red sea bream and incredible half-pound burgers taking centre stage.

The Wardrobe Leeds holds the belief that no matter who you are, there will be something for you at their venue. If you are looking for a lively dining experience, perhaps for a celebration with friends or family, then Soul Kitchen at The Wardrobe Leeds is the place for you.

    Overall:

The food was perfect and it was great of the restaurant to make the effort to allow us to dine off-menu. However, the restaurant saw and ignored messages on social media about making a reservation (which was the only way I could make the reservation at the time, before finding GoDine), the waitress was quite cold and unfriendly, and the chef promised a dish that was served at the very end of the meal due to forgetting that it needed to be served. A good meal overall, though.

    Overall:

Lovely place to have a meal with friends, very friendly and cheery staff. We had a great waiter, even gave us recommendations for places to visit. Jambalaya was a little bland, however all our starters and everything else were delicious!

Good food and good service. I ordered a mini mac and cheese which was tasteless but the crab cakes were lovely. Fabulous cocktails too!

    Overall:

After hearing that the Wardrobe restaurant had been taken over by the Soul Kitchen I just had to try it out for myself! As a lover of Caribbean food I had expectations and I'm please to say that they were not only met - they were exceeded! I had the Jambalaya which was full of flavour. It was so well-portioned that I had no room for anything else but I will definitely be returning soon to try the spicy chicken burger!
