Excellent meal, the place has great history and having someone playing the piano in the background added to the ambiance. Highly recommended!

A great meal in a great restaurant. The Saracens Head really exceeded my expectations! The dishes were delicious, well-cooked and wonderfully presented. My entire party (including the children) licked their plates clean! Highly recommended.

Lovely evening with friends and family. We all had three courses and had no complaints. We were treated very professionally and warmly.

We say…

The Saracens Head Hotel is a historic, dog-friendly, family-run hotel in the heart of Southwell, Nottinghamshire, approximately fourteen miles North-East of Nottingham city centre. After extensive refurbishment, the Saracen’s Head is now a comfortable and luxurious hotel and restaurant that has kept intact much of its Elizabethan charm. Situated on the junction that sees The Market Place, Church Street and King Street meet, The King Charles restaurant is frequented by many diners looking for a truly special dining experience. The hotel also has free parking behind the restaurant!

The hotel itself is picturesque with its classic black and white frontage with window baskets adorning each window. The interior is decorated very much in keeping with the traditional styling of the building: featuring oak panelled walls, luxurious red and gold drapes, classic light fixtures and pristine white table cloths. A baby grand piano sits neatly in the corner and provides entertainment for Sunday diners. Experienced front of house staff will welcome you and create a friendly and warm atmosphere perfect for sampling local produce, exquisite in both presentation and taste.

The team at the Saracens Head have created a modern and contemporary British menu to provide a unique dining experience to be savoured, surrounded by traditional splendour. Executive Head Chef Dave Bukowicki insists on only the best, fresh local produce being used in the restaurant. Bukowicki and his talented team make everything on site daily, enabling them to deal with any dietary requirement at a moment’s notice. The a la carte menu features dishes such as roasted guinea fowl breast with stuffed leg, a tarragon mousse, sarladaise potatoes, caramelised baby onion and salsify; Hywinds farm 8oz sirloin steak cooked to your liking with sautéed potatoes, confit of cherry vine tomatoes, shallot rings and a peppercorn sauce, and a quorn, wild mushroom and baby spinach wellington with cauliflower cheese and an indulgent cream and brandy sauce.

Dining at The Saracen’s Head Southwell would be the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion with family and friends or simply indulge a loved one with a romantic dinner in the evening. The friendly yet professional staff, luxurious surroundings and delectable menu will make you want to savour the moment for as long as possible, and with rooms onsite, why not make an evening of it?
