We say…

You can escape to a different time when you visit the Wortley Hall restaurant, as over 500 years of its history permeate every aspect of this gorgeous building. Set within 26 acres of formal, beautiful woodland, this luxurious venue allows you to relax and retreat from everyday life. Situated just a few miles north-east of the beautiful Peak District, this stately home is very popular with travellers, conferences, weddings and diners alike.

Inside the Ruddy Duck Restaurant you can relax in sumptuous surroundings, with dark wood-panelled walls and luxuriously comfy chairs allowing you to feel like you’re in a Regency drama. The large open fireplaces offer comfort on a misty evening, or, if the sun has made an appearance, a stroll around the pristine grounds is a perfect way to work up an appetite for your meal.

The food strikes the perfect balance of nodding to the elegant past of the Wortley stately home, while remaining creative and showcasing the best of Head Chef Matt Robinson’s contemporary British dishes.  At Wortley, they keep up the tradition of making the most of what is available in the local area, as they smoke their own fish, bake their own bread and pick from the long-established walled gardens for fresh, seasonal and organic ingredients. Otherwise, they ensure to choose from the best local suppliers to make sure each element of their dishes are as tasty and fresh as possible. You can enjoy a light and elegant starter like Jerusalem artichoke soup drizzled with white truffle oil, or opt for the delicate combination of tea-smoked mackerel with horseradish yogurt and beetroot. For a main course, popular options include the decadent venison medallion and cottage pie, served with pancetta in a red wine jus. Be sure to make room for the gorgeous pudding options, like the traditional toffee pudding with salted caramel and the fantastic dandelion and burdock ice cream.

The Ruddy Duck Restaurant at Wortley Hall, Sheffield is the ultimate choice for a special occasion, and it’s well worth creating an entire day’s trip from exploring the grounds and rooms and finishing off with an indulgent meal in this beautifully preserved piece of English history.
