University of Sheffield is a research university which has almost 25,000 students. Although it is not a campus university, most buildings are fairly close to each other and are situated about one mile West of Sheffield’s city centre, making it a good location for those wanting to be close enough to the city to be able to walk there on a night out or for a bit of shopping and seeing friends, but not too close so that they can still concentrate on studying and won't get swallowed up in the city crowds – a good compromise. One of the buildings is the well-known Arts Tower which has a Paternoster lift, and also has a landmark page all to itself on our website! The university has six faculties including an international faculty situated in Thessaloniki, Greece, giving it strong links outside of the UK, an opportunity that many universities do not have. Despite the distance that separates the university from the city centre, there are restaurants close to University of Sheffield so if you're visiting for a few days you can still find somewhere nice to eat and won't have to go very far. There is Loch Fyne, a seafood restaurant on Glossop Road which has a very good reputation.
