An excellent meal as always. Regularly new things on the menu and the service is always outstanding, however busy they are!

Fantastic good, had a full 3 courses and coffee. Very attentative staff. Will be booking again!

Not a large selection but we ordered 4 different main meals and all were excellent. Service a little slow but it was very busy at The Red Lion. Will definitely visit again!

Lovely food and great service at the Red Lion as always!

A great meal as always and the food never fails to disappoint. Fast attentive service in a very busy restaurant and even the special dietary requirements of one of our group was dealt with effectively. Excellent!

We had a terrific Valentines Day meal at The Red Lion. Service was brilliant (if a tad too quick!) food fabulous as usual. My only criticism was that it was not clear that pudding would be a platter with all three options - but they were all brilliant! Would obviously go again!

Lovely food with lot's of flavour at the Red Lion.

Excellent food, service and setting. Would recommend!

The food was very nice at the Red Lion. The scotch egg I had for starters was lovely though the egg inside was a little cold and I would have preferred it hotter. The arrancini was very tasty and the sauce it came with complimented it nicely. The panecotta was delicious, I couldn't eat it all as it was quite rich so if anything maybe this could have been a bit smaller but I really enjoyed it none the less. The service was fantastic - very fast and the staff were very attentive. I would definitely come again!

Had a lovely roast! We were a party of 4 and all enjoyed our meals!

Always a pleasure to visit the Red Lion. We have never had a bad meal at this restaurant.

As regulars to The Red Lion we always have very good food and service. On this occasion my husband had fillet steak at £28, this is a price increase and quite disappointing as the size of the steak was a lot smaller than what we usually have, this will make us think twice about having steak in the future at The Red Lion.

Had the Red lion burger and my date had the baby back ribs. Which she thoroughly enjoyed. Nice dining experience.

Disappointing. Hadn't been here for years, used to be a favourite. It now has all the charm of a "Chain" pub. Really noisy could not hear partner talking. Drinks expensive, food very average, I could've had the same at a well known chain of family restaurants known for their spit roast chicken and salad bar. Th only saving grace were the puddings, quite a good portion size. I could go on but no time to write anymore.

Excellent food! Service was great too. Lovely evening would definitely go again

Lovely meal at The Red Lion with outstanding service!

    The food was absolutely fantastic!!

A very busy evening, but the service was still fantastic. Nice and quick to clear away plates and glasses without making us feel rushed.
The young staff are a credit to the The Red Lion.
Cheerful, obliging and hard working. We were a group of 6 and had a wonderful evening. Thanks you.

Lovely meal as usual, The Red Lion is one of my favourite places to eat the food is so good.

Food was good. Service was polite and prompt. However, it was very busy, some really noisy diners disturbed our enjoyment.

Lovely peaceful lunch, just what I had in mind.
Always a pleasure to meet up with friends here.

The food and menu choice was very good at the Red Lion. Unfortunately despite booking the table several weeks in advance our table was in a room to the back of the pub which fails to meet up to the ambiance of the main dining area.

We were impressed with menu and the food did not disappoint. The service and ambience were very good. A very nice evening.

Great food at the Red Lion!

The food was very nice at the Red Lion but our evening was spoiled by a large noisy table we moved tables but there was no escape, we had to shout at each other so we could be heard.

Overall it was a good meal but it was extremely loud and I feel that it's lost something special which it had a few years ago when I started going there.

The meal was very tasty and good quality, about the right balance between cost and quantity/quality.
Big thumbs up, I was impressed and will return!

Superb meal at the Red Lion, everything spot on! Highly recommended.

Had a fab meal on Mothers Day at the Red Lion, could not fault the service, the staff or the food, will definitely visit again!

Overall a fantastic evening. My only comments would be not to put salt on the children's meals and also by pre booking I hoped we would get a really good table. Unfortunately we were initially placed right next to the bar, but they were more than happy to move us to a quieter location when I requested this. Thnak you for a lovely meal!

The whole evening was extremely enjoyable and I have already recommended to some friends to go there!

The experience was prefect. It was our anniversary meal and we have always had a lovely meal in a beautiful surroundings. The food is of a very high standard, and in my opinion the best in the county.

Excellent food and very polite, efficient and friendly staff - thank you!

Very good food at the Red Lion!

Service and presentation of food was very good. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Good food as always at the Red Lion. There were a couple of new members of staff serving, so marked down slightly as service was a little slow, but sure this will be quickly sorted with experience.

Very nice atmosphere and pretty attentive friendly staff. Took my son there for his 19th birthday. Had a drink out front in the seating area by the front door. Very nice and relaxed. The young lady on the reception book had a lovely manner and efficient, friendly way. Lunch was pretty good and with a little tweaking would get 5 stars. Warm plates for example. But that's a little picky, but if you want 5 stars...
Would I recommend the Red Lion? You bet I would. We are from deepest Kent, but I would definitely eat here again when passing on the M1 going North or coming Home. Incidentally, Its not a bad drive and fairly straight forward from the M1 Crick turn, about 15 minutes, so easily done.

The first Thursday of the month at The Red Lion is a red meat night. The home made burger was very tasty and the complimentary bottle of red wine washed it down a treat. We tried the pudding platter to share. It was very generous and extremely tasty. The welcome on arrival was happy and we were looked after in an efficient and friendly way all evening.

Great service & great food as always .

Ate here on 14th Feb 2015 (For Valentines Dinner). While the food was excellent I was brought out the incorrect starter in the first instance and Wine glasses were taken away without asking if we'd be having wine later in the meal. Are only small things, but when you're paying the amount you do to eat here you expect things to be near on perfect. Wine is also fairly expensive so soon racks up the table bill. Ended up staying overnight in the hotel which was ok, but on my side of the bed part of the (Divan) bed had broken meaning that the mattress was sunk down and not supported which led to a slightly restless night.

Easy to book on line. Staff lovely and friendly and keen to explain menu items we were not sure about. Service was at correct pace. Extensive menu which was a problem, just too much choice to allow easy choice. Food was delicious and well presented. I have always enjoyed the Red Lion but I think it is now better than ever. Made my special day even better.

I chose the liver dish and my companion chose the beef in red wine.
Although in both cases the meat was very well cooked and plentiful. The vegetable of cabbage and bacon which was included was limp and there was so little of it it was more like a garnish. The actual service was good and fast but we were seated right next to the entrance to the kitchen so there was continuous traffic going by our table. Overall thought this was too expensive for a pub meal.

2nd visit to Red Lion. Highly recommend it. Food ,drink & service are 4 star.

This was my first time at Red Lion & it did not disappoint! Great food friendly staff & excellent service. Looking forward to next time!

Met with a friendly welcome and given the option to eat inside or outside. Our drinks order and food was taken promptly and was served quickly with a good space between courses. We had to move indoors because of the wasps and this was not a problem for the staff. The food was nice, well presented and good value. My only criticism of The Red Lion East Haddon is that we were a little slow getting the bill and we did not get a satisfaction check during each course.

Yet another excellent meal at The Red Lion! Absolutely flawless from start to finish. This is so much more than your standard pub grub!

A really enjoyable meal in very comfortable surroundings. We were very well looked after without being hassled and the overall service was excellent.

We would have preferred to have had a few moments on arrival and not be asked as we were being seated what we wanted to drink and did we want bottled water with our meal. Otherwise the whole experience was most enjoyable and the food excellent.

Great menu, great food, great service. I would highly recommend it for a night out.

I was served a meal of goats cheese risotto but it tasted like tomato risotto, I could hardly find any cheese. This dish was presented well but, there was a chip out of the dish it was served in. There was no apology from the waitress and the manager seemed very complacent about the whole thing.

The food was excellent as was the experience with the exception of the cheese board. This did not reach the quality of the rest of the food and was not value for the price charged.

Excellent meal and evening. Staff were friendly and professional. £160 for 4 persons including wine is reasonable value given the quality of food and service. Would go again.

Our 1st visit. Delightful location, very pleasant staff, food presentation perfect and quality excellent. Will definately be returning and taking friends.

Really good night out. Menu is on the more expensive side, but the food is very good. Blue Cheese and Artichoke Risotto starter was excellent, as was the service. Highly recommended.

Fantastic meal as well as very good service and very nice surroundings.
    Will definitely go again.

Probably a 9.5 of 10; great food although the red cabbage side was a little strong on cinnamon and the starters were a tad expensive. However, the braised meat dish melted in the mouth and the crumble was perfect.

I am sorry to say that the waitress came across quite brusque and not too helpful. It would have been nice to have been reminded to order vegetables - so we did not get any. Food very tasty, small portions but beautifully presented.

Having dined at the Red Lion many times in the past .I wasn’t sure about the new décor, trendy, wood floors etc. I felt it had lost some unique cosy country pub/restaurant atmosphere.
However on the plus side both the food and service were very good.

A lovely menu of delicious food. It was nice to see some local produce on the menu and to see a menu that hasn't got pages on pages of choice, you know your food is going to be good when the restaurant specialises in 8-10 dishes for each course. I recommend the duck breast for starter.

We say…

Recently awarded the Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide, The Red Lion in East Haddon is a truly exceptional pub restaurant dedicated to serving exquisite food for very reasonable prices. Located just a ten minute drive from Northampton town centre, it is well worth a detour to sample the cuisine that has received such a highly-coveted award.

The Red Lion is set within a beautiful old building that provides plenty of atmosphere, completed with thatched roof and golden Northamptonshire sand stone. Visitors are welcome to sit in the cosy and welcoming bar lounge and sample any of the locally brewed feature ales before moving through to the relaxed bistro-style dining area or the main room, which has been transformed in to a beautiful and grand dining room. Complete with a large open fireplace, exposed beams and French doors leading out onto the beautiful garden, it provides a wonderful, slightly more formal dining experience with a relaxed ambience.

Owner Nick Bonner has brought an incredibly experienced and dedicated team together to create a menu that showcases local free-range meats and produce wherever possible. With dishes such as free-range pork scotch egg with caper and parsley mayonnaise, along with cured salmon and honey pickled cucumber salads on offer for starters, your mouth will be watering long before the mains arrive. The main menu features delicious dishes such as pan-fried salmon with sautéed potatoes, artichokes, olives and spinach, along with tiger prawn gnocchi in a spicy tomato and chorizo sauce. Vegetarians can enjoy dishes such as the squash, sage and pine nut arrancini with fontina cheese, buttered spinach and mushroom sauce. Those with a sweet tooth will also welcome the puddings menu, which is packed with classics such as sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream, as well as innovative treats including the dark chocolate and coffee arctic roll with warm mocha sauce.

The Red Lion in East Haddon is a spectacular venue that should be experienced by all. With two different dining options, informal and formal, this venue will suit any occasion, large or small. Go on, treat yourself.
