Attentive old-school dinner party experience in Retford.
Chef-proprietor Ian runs No 5 in Retford with his wife, Liz. The seasonally-changing menu reflects Ian’s classical French and Italian training and comes with a generous helping of impeccable customer service.
You’ll dine in the luxurious ambience of a lovingly restored Georgian townhouse fitted out with chandeliers, tasteful taxonomy and statement bookcases, lined with chests and leather-bound books.
The menu often features regional influences such as noisettes of Yorkshire lamb, drizzled in honey and served with caramelised pears and port reduction, while bass from the North Sea is pan-fried and married with samphire grass, scallops, saffron, white wine and cream.
There are always decadent vegetarian options to choose from, too, such as wild mushroom, saffron and parmesan risotto.
No 5’s dessert menu promises to be utterly enticing. Look out for a Bailey’s and chocolate chip cheesecake, rhubarb and caramelized ginger sponge and a white chocolate and raspberry crème
It’s worth noting that while Ian is more than happy to cater for special dietary needs, he will need prior notice such is the bespoke nature of the service at No 5.
Set in a picturesque market town, No 5 is a favourite not just among locals but as a stopping point for visitors on a day out who seek a dash of the past.
