We say…

Bringing its unique flame-grilled PERi-PERi infusion all the way from South Africa to Nottingham, this outlet of world-renowned Afro-Portuguese chicken chain Nando's, just off Old Market Square, is a spicy addition to the city centre’s diverse restaurant landscape. Perfectly situated for a pre-show meal before heading over to the Theatre Royal Concert Hall, its centrality also makes it the ideal casual-dining companion to a day of hitting the shops at the intu Victoria Centre and Nottingham’s vibrant high streets. While undoubtedly a student favourite, particularly for those studying at nearby Nottingham Trent University, Nando’s has something to offer to customers young and old, and is great for families.

Nando’s’ bold and distinctive logo will catch your eye immediately as you walk up Angel Row, with the otherwise glass-fronted exterior giving you a taste of what awaits you inside. And what it is that awaits is a warm, inviting and wholly authentic-feeling Afro-inspired eatery, with genuine South African artwork hanging from the walls shipped all the way from the restaurant’s Johannesburg headquarters. Dressed up head-to-toe in rustic wood, brick and stone, there are even impressive woven bamboo half-dome ‘huts’ sheltering some of the tables. If you’re not lucky enough to land one of those, you’ll still have plenty of seating options to choose from. You could dine under the sun thanks to a large skylight fitted overhead in the centre, or retreat to the more intimately-lit seating areas elsewhere in the surprisingly spacious restaurant.

If chicken is your thing, you’re in luck, since Nando’s is widely known for its PERi-PERi-marinated poultry. Order a whole or half chicken, or have yours in a pitta or burger if you’d prefer. Either way, it’s totally up to you how spicy you want it - just consult the PERi-ometer to select your optimal flavour and intensity. Or why not make things interesting with a game of wing roulette, a selection of randomly spiced chicken wings available as a main or a starter to share. Chicken may be its claim to fame, but the restaurant also caters to other tastes  - all side dishes are proudly veggie-friendly, and a range of vegetarian starter and main course options are on offer too, such as the portobello mushroom and halloumi burger and a Mediterranean salad. For the kids, there’s the Nandino’s menu, specially selected for under-10s and customisable enough to please even picky eaters. Finish it all off with something sweet, like a slice of cake with a scoop of Gelado, or perhaps a freshly-baked traditional Portuguese Nata.

Next time you find yourself seeking a centrally-located lunch or dinner destination which is affordable yet authentic, with quick service that never compromises on quality, Nando’s certainly fits the bill.
