A wonderful setting, slightly remote location, great food but extremely busy so had to sit downstairs, of course, the popularity is nothing but a positive reflection on the place. Great Sunday dinner, good beer, great setting. Would highly recommend.

Family went for Sunday lunch and left very happy. beautiful food served in a beautiful setting. staff were very accommodating too, well done!

We say…

In the pretty village of Hartshorne, a couple of minutes North East of Swadlincote, is The Mill Wheel bar and restaurant. As one of Derbyshire’s AA rosette awarded restaurants, The Mill Wheel is sure to charm and delight you, whenever you decide to visit.

The Mill Wheel boasts a whole host of impressive accolades including an AA rosette received in August 2011, as well as a five star hygiene rating and a CAMRA awarded country pub, and it is easy to see why awards come so easily. Fusing contemporary décor with tradition, The Mill Wheel offers contemporary British dining with traditional Derbyshire roots. The venue is beautiful and has been restored in a way that makes the most of the original features such as the timbered ceilings, stone walls, working fireplace and the water wheel. The dining rooms are cosy, welcoming and provide rustic charm with a contemporary twist.

The menu is packed full of classic British dishes that have all been given a Mill Wheel touch by the incredibly talented kitchen team. The menus are incredibly reasonably priced, making it the ideal venue for a large gathering or special occasion as well as romantic and intimate meals. The menu changes seasonally to make the most of the exceptional Derbyshire produce. When the ingredients are in season, you can expect to find dishes such as pressed ham hock and black pudding terrine and grilled goats cheese with crushed hazelnut and beetroot puree for starters. Show-stopping mains include pork tenderloin with sage crushed potatoes or breast of Gressingham duck, expertly prepared, moist and flavoursome.

The Mill Wheel bar and restaurant in Hartshorne, Derbyshire, has become renowned for its friendly staff and reasonably priced, yet exceptional cuisine and is worth a visit whether you are a local or not. It is hard not to wonder how soon it will be until this superb venue receives a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its stunning food, service and surroundings. We highly recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment.
