Close to the very centre of Sheffield city centre, situated on the central Glossop Road, Maveli Restaurant and Bar specialises in authentic south Indian food.
The restaurant is a beautifully decorated contemporary space, combining clean, chic modern design with traditional Indian colours and patterns. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for group meals and intimate dinners. Hindu mythology tells of King Maveli learning to conquer his ego by trial of Hindu god Vishnu, the story which gave this restaurant its name. Relaxed and humble, Maveli is a great place to visit for a comfortable, friendly evening of dining. It’s also a great place to celebrate special occasions, with private hire available and outdoor catering an option.
The menu is a fantastic mix of modern and classic Indian cuisine, offering a variety of meat, seafood and vegetarian to suit all tastes. Choose from a number of specialised menus, such as traditional snacks and dosa dishes, to hearty main courses and vegetable and egg dishes. Maveli has a selection of food including old favourites such as masalas, curries and chukkas. Try the Avial, a medley of South Indian vegetables, gently cooked with coconut and yoghurt, or the Konju masala, made from pan roasted tiger prawns in authentic Indian spices. A number of biryani and other rice dishes are also available, including Maveli’s speciality biryani cooked with mutton and chicken, finished with a fried egg. Towards the end of the evening, try a dish from Maveli’s wonderful sweets section, a menu full of traditional south Indian desserts and treats. The mango delish is the restaurant’s particular specialty, an Indian take on a mango crème brulee, flavoured with cardamom and pistachio. For something more unusual try the semiya payasam, a sweet pasta dish, cooked in milk and sugar, garnished with cashew nuts and saltanas.
Offering a unique menu and South Indian speciality, Maveli, Sheffield, is a fantastic place to try some interesting Indian cuisine so close to Sheffield’s centre.
