Sunday morning dim sum was tasty but discovered after the meal that it was full of MSG. Not completely surprised but seems to have more MSG than Man's.
Was really confused when the Bill arrived as we were charged more than expected. They explained that we ordered off the Chinese dim sum menu with prices that were over half year old. Only the menu with English was updated to current prices. Why would they not update all menus or at least verbally inform prior to? As opposed to coming over to explain when we were trying to work out the math? Better yet, spend the money to print new menus! I'm sure it's not really legal to charge someone and show them a different menu AFTER they have eaten and ordered. Imagine if all restaurants did that!
Do be careful as they also charge £1.40 more for credit card payment (again unjustified as companies charge only about 3%) vs. cash and even if you were willing to pay the extra charge with card, they would prefer you run out to grab cash from the machine around the corner in the rain. Oh and while your partner grabs said cash, they ask if you can vacate the table for waiting customers at the door. How rude!
After that experience, I will likely not return. -

A fantastic restaurant. The food was outstanding. The service was excellent and it offers great value for money too. They've clearly worked out how many staff they need to service a restaurant that was full. We will definitely be going back. You could tell there was lots of regulars as the staff knew a lot of the customers last night. Well worth a visit!

Lovely setting and atmosphere. We were a group of 6 and had the set menu which was fantastic and great value for money as there was so much food and all very nice, depending on your taste preferences, some quite spicy. Service was fine for the food and they know how to keep selling the wine! But had to ask several times for water and a bit of a wait for the bill but all in all a very good place to eat and be merry!

A real surprise - better than what I had anticipated.
Went for the set menu, which worked out to be great. LOads of food and it was really good quality, paced out throughout the night.
The service was great and we had a lovely waitress.
Would recommend!! -

From the moment we entered your restaurant, we were made to feel amazingly welcome by every member of staff we came into contact with, in particular Wendy, our server for the evening. The food was exceptional, without a doubt the finest Chinese food either of us have ever had in a restaurant in the UK, and my wife (who is of Chinese extraction) felt that it tasted of real Chinese home cooking.
We will, without a doubt, be returning!

We say…
Upmarket Chinese restaurant at the foot of Hockley in Nottingham city centre.
Mandarin's speciality is Dim Sum, a shared approach to dining with small dishes including soups, conges, steamed and fried dumplings.
Meanwhile the A La Carte menu offers all the Chinese favourites, from BBQ spare ribs and spring rolls to steamed sea bass, beef in black bean sauce and an array of chow meins and other noodle dishes.
In addition to these tried and tested favourites there are also traditional Chinese dishes available such as beef brisket hot pot with turnips and potatoes.
Spread over two floors with 120 covers there is room for groups large or small, as well as private dining and hire. The interior décor is sleek and comfortable, with a mix of large round tables and smaller booths.
Traditional Chinese artwork and an indoor water feature add to this tranquil setting.
You can find Mandarin Cantonese Restaurant opposite the National Ice Arena on the edge of the Lace Market in Nottingham city centre.
