We say…

In the busy city centre of Derby it can be hard to stumble across a unique, fresh place to eat. If you visit Lorentes, however, you’ll discover a little piece of Spain fully functioning as a fantastic tapas restaurant and wine bar. It’s in the centre of the city, on the bustling Friar Gate, which is just seconds away from the central Derby Museum and Art Gallery and the landmark Derby Central Library, as well as countless fab bars, pubs, shops and areas to visit whether you’re a Derby local or a visitor.

The restaurant is a fun, lively space where there’s always helpful staff chatting with regulars and new diners, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and enjoys the trademark gregarious Spanish hospitality. Sit down at one of the smaller tables if you want to catch up and chat over some fab food, or bring the whole family and enjoy one of the large seatings as a big group. Whichever combination you choose, you can be sure that you’ll experience good, speedy service and tasty tapas.

The menu is selective, and features all the best dishes in Spanish cuisine for you to try. We highly recommend ordering plenty for your table and sharing between you, to make sure you can sample a bit of everything! To start with try a sharing platter of yummy, crispy chunky potatoes with a hot tomato sauce, and don’t forget to go for the calamari rings with golden batter. The specials board for tapas changes often, but you can opt for a traditional Spanish omelette tortilla, and we also love the unusual combination of black pudding with creamy goats’ cheese and caramelised onion. All the dishes are very well priced, so don’t be afraid to go for as many plates as you fancy! The waiters are always on hand to give recommendations, even down to which high-quality Spanish wine would best complement your chosen dishes.

Lorentes is a fantastic establishment with plenty of character, and you won’t regret popping in for a vibrant evening meal. Next time you’re in Derby city centre, make sure you pay this lovely restaurant a visit.
