We say…

Situated in the heart of the beautiful and historic market town in Derbyshire, Le Mistral in Bakewell is the latest addition to the string of three other incredibly successful Le Mistral’s that can be found in the East Midlands. The Wirksworth branch picked up the Derbyshire International Restaurant of the Year award in 2009 and there is sure to be in-house competition for the accolade in the years to come.

In keeping with the Le Mistral ethos, the Bakewell restaurant oozes the same charm and character that the Wirksworth and Nottingham branches do. It’s all about relaxed, bistro style dining that encourages guests to slow down and enjoy the delicious food for an hour or two. The restaurant is candle lit at most times, making it an ideal place to meet with loved ones or perhaps to start a new romance. Dark wood panelling runs round the entire room and clads the bar whilst a large stone fireplace and beautiful wooden beams covered in fairy lights add a fairy tale twist.

The menu showcases the rich flavours and textures of France with starters including moules marinière and baked camembert with crusty bread. You will find the mains as equally mouth-watering with dishes such as beautiful beef bourguignon, salmon fillet with a pesto crust, and hearty sausage of the day and mash. There is a limited menu for vegetarians that, whilst small, is delicious. Alongside the menu you will find wine recommendations for each dish which allow you to expertly match you fine French wines perfectly to your meal, Bon Appetite!

With an emphasis on friendly service and reasonably-priced food, Le Mistral Bakewell ticks all the boxes. It’s perfect for a romantic evening, a special occasion or a catch-up with friends. Whatever reason you have for visiting, you can rest assured that you will leave feeling relaxed, content and full of French fervour.

    Overall:

Enjoyed a meal here on Friday evening, my beef was very tender, my husbands pork was rather fatty, the house Merlot was very good. Lauren was very welcoming and attentive and the ambience at Le Mistral in Bakewell was nice.

    Overall:

We had booked in for a Christmas meal and there was only one other table busy but we waited so long for an offer for drinks that we gave up on the idea of an aperitif and when straight to the main drinks. The food was ok but nothing more than that and although the other party had hats we were not offered any (had they brought their own?) Our coffees arrived before our desserts and despite sitting there talking for a good hour after we had finished no attempt was made to either top up our drinks or clear the plates away. I have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions but I have to say I was disappointed. We took the bulk of our intended tip away with us to give to charity.

    Overall:

We had a good night as a birthday treat for my husband. I felt his meal was rather over priced and mine had twice the amount of food on it that his had. We had a good time however and we will go again.

    Overall:

Excellent meal and service. Only downside was the lack of diners in the restaurant. We appreciated the value for money especially at this time of year.

    Overall:

Sunday evening - very quiet ,warm cosy atmosphere. Prompt service- very polite and attentive but not hovering over you. Food was excellent! Fit to burst after starter and main meal. Excellent value. Would absolutely recommend friends and family to dine here. Lovely to have a relaxed restaurant in Bakewell that offers high standards at an affordable price in a relaxed atmosphere! Hope to see you soon.
