Another lovely meal at the Larder. Sad to see it so quiet because of the Coronavirus scare. Apparently lots of covers cancelled. Wash your hands and get out there people!

Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea with my boyfriend!

Delicious haggis bon bons then chicken with Jerusalem artichoke, bacon and sprouting broccoli. Tasty treacle tart, though turmeric and ginger ice cream was less successful. Wonderful Fronsac wine.

Excellent food and service in a beautiful building.

Great food, pork was slightly dry. Disappointed to see a different menu to what was on their website but nonetheless, food was delicious. Ambiance and service were wonderful.

A tasty meal with friendly service and a fantastic bottle of Hungarian red wine.

I took my fiancee out for an anniversary meal here and it was fantastic. I don't really go out to restaurants often but I would like to come back here again.
We were seated quickly and the waitress who seated us was lovely.
We ordered off the fixed price menu and it was a good price and great food.
If you can tell I haven't really reviewed before but from my experience, it's a nice little restaurant tucked away in Nottingham that I would happily go to again and suggest to anyone looking for a quiet evening.

    Very good experience.

We enjoyed everything about the restaurant: excellent very reasonably priced food and wine. Set in pleasant surroundings with friendly and helpful staff.

Came here Saturday night. What a beautiful place! Such a hidden gem. Food was beautiful, service was great and didn't feel like we were being rushed. We shall be back.

Great evening meal, good value for money and staff pleasant and friendly.

Nice place, food good apart from the 'roast' potatoes in duck fat and paprika - soggy and tasteless; apart from one I took to taste, they were left uneaten. We thought it a bit on the pricey side. Service and ambience excellent.

    Lovely meal.

The food was to die for and the staff were attentive and efficient. Can’t ask for more really. Highly recommended.

Fantastic, service was great will be booking again!

Great food! and really good service!

Food was absolute perfect. Can't say the same about the service.

Great food, cannot fault it. However, service was lacking. We were kept waiting at the door on arrival and had to ask for drinks.

Very tasty food at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, the restaurant was almost deserted due to the post-Christmas lull.

    Exceptional all round.

If you are looking for the perfect food, you should come here. This restaurant is so amazing and reasonable price.

Such a lovely restaurant and meal. Staff were amazingly friendly. Thank you.

Delicious ham hock terrine, skirt steak and chocolate cheesecake for a very reasonable price. Shame about the scaffolding outside.

    Excellent service and great value.

tasty tomato and mozzarella starter, but flat iron steak was disappointingly sinewy, and the chips are not as good as they used to be

We booked in with family for lunch on Mothers' Day, having had great meals there in the past. The restaurant has a lovely Victorian vintage/eclectic feel inside (but not OTT), it's just a shame that, as the restaurant is upstairs, that the view out of the beautiful old windows is of some neglected upper-floors of the shops/businesses opposite. I can't recall now what we ordered now but, while it was fine/good, it wasn't quite up to the standard we've experience there previously, and we thought that we could have paid less for the same quality elsewhere ... this could have been because it was a set menu for Mothers' Day, although that shouldn't really make a difference.

A party of 4 of us had a delicious relaxing lunch, with two reasonably priced wines from the bin end list, both of which were very good. Service was friendly and unobtrusive.

The food was excellent - very tasty both for meat eaters and vegetarians, and presented in an aesthetically pleasing way - and the ambiance of the restaurant sublime (it had an airy, light Scandinavian timber feel). We did sense a tension amongst the staff servicing us - giving the impression of subservience (especially when one of the waitresses dropped a glass). But overall, pretty good value. Would recommend.

Always lovely food and polite service at The Larder on Goosegate. The cocktails need a little work. Relaxing atmosphere.

I loved eating at the Larder on Goosegate as it has a really nice, relaxed atmosphere. We took my Mum for a Mother's Day meal and she was not disappointed. I would definitely visit again in the future!

My husband and I both enjoyed our meal on valentines day. It would have been nice to have a table near the window as requested but still ok.

The steak was too tough. But overall not too bad!

Was a lovely meal, maybe could have done with some additional sauce/gravy with some of the main meals, great atmosphere

Excellent Christmas menu at the Larder on Goosegate. We chose the Xmas menu as a dinner meal before going to the theatre. Informed the staff on arrival and the service was quick but didn't leave us feeling rushed. Would definitely go again.

The Larder on Goosegate is housed within an interesting historic building (the original Boots!). Very good value wine. Efficient (if somewhat robotic) service. Nice and warm, on what was a cold day. Centrally located, and handy for lots of trendy bars. Otherwise excellent food spoiled by the meat and the vegetables tasting of fish! Didn't dare try a pudding in case of more fish taste!

    Lovely meal!

First time and very impressed with food and service at The Larder on Goosegate. Well done!

A beautiful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, great for couples!

Meat dishes were divine. However the veg option could have been better. Very noisy large party spoiled things slightly. Did say on booking it was my sons 21st- no attention paid to that - a little touch would have been appreciated. Nice venue. Great service.

Delicious duck breast main, with one of the best dauphinoise I have ever had. Rather uncomfortable table in the far corner, and a very sweet praline parfait dessert which wasn't to my taste. Otherwise lovely evening at The Larder on Goosegate.

The food here is always delicious, particularly the fish (and vegetable side special!). Good wine list too. Quite quiet early on, but still a lovely atmosphere.

Good food at the Larder on Goosegate, one of our diners had steak which seemed particularly good. Desserts were delicious! Service was excellent, not invasive but there when they were needed. It was a little quiet in terms of ambience but we did go on a Tuesday evening in January so not entirely unexpected. Would recommend.

Excellent food and service, not inexpensive, but well worth it!

Unusually poor food today, from the pre-theatre menu. A beautifully cooked piece of bass was let down by dull sides, and the starter gazpacho was very salty to the point of almost being inedible.

Stunning food in all three courses, including a wonderful earl grey pannacotta; brilliant priorat wine at a reasonable priced; wonderful atmosphere at The Larder on Goosegate.

Had the 3 course pre-theatre/lunch menu. Great food, good prices. Menu changes daily but dishes were well done at The Larder on Goosegate.

Excellent restaurant, definitely one of my favourites in Nottingham. Delicious fish main courses, and the desserts and cakes are very hard to resist. Really good value pre-theatre menu too.

Excellent meal in lovely relaxing surroundings. Will definitely go again!

Fantastic venison/haggis bon bons and potted rabbit to start, delicious pig cheeks, desserts less impressive but only because the standard of savoury was so high; brilliant value, lovely surroundings.

Wonderful meal as ever, always excellent fish, interesting dishes using unusual cuts of meal, delicious desserts!

First visit to The Larder with 7 friends. Service friendly and timely, food excellent. Definitely recommend. Perhaps could do with more lighting when leaving the restaurant to walk down the stairs to the outside door.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Delicious food, as ever, particularly the picanha steak. Really interesting wine list, including a Lebanese ready. Wonderful atmosphere, thanks for a great night.

Friends ham hock had plastic still wrapped on it. However the staff did not charge for either of our starters. Seemed to have to wait a while before menus were brought.

Come very original food with fantastic results; fantastic fish/seafood, as ever; excellent value for the quality of the food.

Always excellent value for original and very tasty hearty cooking, with friendly staff in suitably utilitarian surroundings.

Buzzy atmosphere, helpful service, inventive individual and tasty food at a very good price.

Delicious steak as ever at The Larder on Goosegate.

It was our first time at The Larder on Goosegate - it lived up to our expectations. The ambiance especially atmospheric and original, the service polite, unobtrusive but efficient.

Absolutely stunning food from start to finish, and such brave combinations of ingredients!

Delicious food unlike anywhere else in Nottingham - rustic and no-nonsense but very tasty!

Spotted this when wandering around Hockley, Nottingham and liked the look of the menu. Good, high-quality food that was well presented. The Confit of duck is a lovely starter, my husband and I both had it and enjoyed it. Will definitely be returning to the Larder on Goosegate.

    Delicious food, incredible value.

Love this place and everything about it. Never had a bad "anything" here.

Fabulous restaurant, good central location and love the views over the street below. The steaks were perfectly cooked, the beer was great and the whole place has a very relaxed, comfortable vibe. Staff were friendly and efficient but unobtrusive. Highly recommend, especially if you're a steak fan.

Beautifully cooked food and attentively served. The pre-theatre deal is very good value for money. The steak flank starters I had was melt-in-the-mouth and the mussels mains were tasty and plentiful. Try the walnut tart ... it is stunning!

really good steak! i had the hanger steak and it was done just to my liking, so tender and juicy, would really recommend a visit.

Another enjoyable visit. Welcomed warmly by very helpful staff. Good selection of food on the excellent value set menu, and an extensive wine list. My colleague had steak and chips, cooked to perfection. We ordered 2 desserts, chocolate raspberry pavlova and walnut brownie, and shared them. Both were delicious. Excellent value with 2 courses at £13.95.

This is the second time I have eaten here and I can highly recommend the restaurant. The food and service are always to a high standard.

Having been here once before as a couple, decided to come back as a 4 for the pre-theatre.

The menu has a very good choice and is brilliant value. And the food was really great too! Very tasty and very well cooked quality food.

Service was great and with a smile, and they were able to accommodate the fact that we were rushing to a show at the Concert Hall.

Lovely setting, excellent food, attentive service. Brilliant place.

As always, good food & service. Decent wine list & plenty of choice from the menu.

Excellent food and service. We had the set menu which is something like £15 for 3 courses. I had the mussels and the steak, and I can strongly recommend both.

    Very good.

Early Bird Menu very good - varied choices. Would like to see Cheese and Biscuits on the desserts though (for Early Bird).

Food and service very good - a real find! Eaten here several times over last 3 years - good for coeliacs too. Choices are not wide but wide enough to cater for inadventurous to adventurous.

Had pre-theatre meal which was excellent value. Good service. We will be visiting again soon.

Really good food and wine selection. Had a lovely birthday meal at the Larder. Will definitely be going again.

First time visitor to the Larder on Goosegate.
The venue was very classy with a nice ambience, the food was of a very good quality, appearence and taste. The staff were very welcoming, attentive and pleasent. We ordered from the pre theatre menu which was exceptional value for the quality of the food. We unfortunately had to leave to see the concert but would have happily stayed longer, we would recommend this restaurant and would not hesitate visiting again.

Excellent food, great value. Relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Very nice steak, cooked well very tasty. Don't get the sprats though they repeat on you. Very nice Rose wine, 2nd on the menu.

I really liked this restaurant as the food was hearty and used a lot of fresh produce. Would go again. Shame they don't have wheelchair access for one of my relatives.

Have been to the Larder several times and its been great. This time however the service really let it down.

Arrived at 8.00, by 8.30 we still hadn't ordered the food. When the waitress did attend us she was nice, but we hardly saw her. She was taking our desert order at 10.20, at that point i just wanted to leave. When we did get the bill and pay, we were waiting for her to collect, we waited so long we decided to leave the money on the table, get up, find where they had put our coats, collect them and leave. They really didn't seem to care.

Shame the food is decent - but better customer service would make all the difference.

Don't think I'll be going back again.

Food was brilliant, great ambience and the staff were really helpful. Overall, excellent.

Delicious reasonably-priced food, particularly the set menu. A lovely room, attractively decorated and lit. Friendly attentive staff, but we had to wait a little longer than we'd liked to order as there was only one lady taking orders when we were seated. Ladies' toilets offered hand cream and were decorated with jars of fresh flowers. Will definitely be going again.

Limited menu, but very fresh produce. Service polite, but slow.

The meal I had was absolutely delicious, and the whole menu sounded like a great testament to British food. The restaurant itself was beautiful and I would recommend a seat by the window because I loved being able to see what was happening in the street below. Can't wait to visit this restaurant again in the near future!

Very good night - enjoyed by all. Great food!!!! Recommend!

The Larder on Goosegate is an exceptional restaurant, where the quality of food and service are priced very reasonably. We had the Skate cheeks and Ham terrine to start, followed by Steak and Pork Belly mains, all of which were delicious. The cheese board and Panacota to finish were also very tasty. The Rose Merlot we had to accompany the meal was divine. An exceptional night out at a restaurant I would recommend to anyone.....even more so with the 15% discount.

I had scallops for starter and the piquot steak followed by the Eaton mess and every mouthful was amazing. The food is always top quality and they are always accomodating where possible.

An outstanding evening out, the service was excellent and neither too fast or too slow. The food was excellently cooked and presented and the atmosphere was lovely. Heartily recommended if you're looking for a special meal out.

Lovely food - very good quality. Great service, professional and welcoming. Staff knowledgable on the food. Enjoyed the style of the restaurant, had massive windows to people watch. Only negative point is we only recieved 10% discount rather than the 15%. Was going to bring it up, but wasn't sure what the right amount of discount we got(wasn't sure if it was 10% or 15%). Make sure you get the right discount!

This was a lovely friendly restaurant with an interesting menu. We really enjoyed the beetroot starter and the lemon dessert.

Excellent food, friendly service and a lovely setting. Ended up going back two nights in a row and got to try a good selection of the menu. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our evening at the Larder. the food was of high quality and the decor was really nice. I would definitely recommend it and plan to go again very soon.

Excellent value with great food. We can't rate the service highly enough, the staff are so good! The ambience got a 9 because it was really hot up there, with no opening windows.
All in all a great night out.

We say…

Situated in Hockley Nottingham, opposite Shanghai Shanhai restaurant sits The Larder on Goosegate. Nestled in close proximity to the Broadway Arts Cinema as well as an abundance of independent outlets.

Housed within a Grade II Victorian listed building, the former home of a small herbalist’s shop that grew to become the pharmaceutical giants Boots, the Larder on Goosegate elegant yet unpretentious and steeped in history. The proprietors have done a fantastic job converting this herbologists shop into an elegant and relaxed restaurant. With full-length windows lining the walls and a fresh, natural colour palette featuring muted turquoises, creams and chocolates, it is bright.

The Larder On Goosegate team are passionate about sourcing excellent local British produce and the recipes are designed to show them off to best effect. Much of their meat is reared and butchered locally, by a network of small farmers so that it has travelled no more than 30 miles from field to plate. Details of all the suppliers are given on the menu.

On the ever-changing, seasonally-inspired menu, you are likely to come across dishes such as Belly Pork served with roasted apple, spring onions and cider gravy. Mushroom Tart with a hazelnut and parsley pesto sauce, and Grilled Plaice with a sorrel and cockle sauce, samphire and crushed Jersey Royals. The Larder has a great reputation for its steaks. All of their beef is sourced from 100%, grass-fed, suckler herd Aberdeen Angus, matured on the bone for a minimum of 28 days. The Larder ensures that all cattle are reared to exacting welfare standards; with a good selection of vegetarian dishes, there is truly something for everyone.

Visiting The Larder on Goosegate is highly recommended, for food connoisseurs and those looking for a relaxed venue where you can savour each mouthful.
