We say…

In the heart of the historic Nottinghamshire town of Southwell is the popular, lively French-Moroccan restaurant La Parisienne. Located just 14 miles north-east of Nottingham city centre, Southwell boasts an amazing Norman cathedral, Southwell Minster, as well as the Workhouse National Trust museum, and Southwell racecourse. This, combined with what La Parisienne has to offer, makes it well worth venturing into the picturesque little town for a great day out with friends or family.

Inside you will find that owners Kenza and Steve have created a warm, welcoming atmosphere where they make sure that both new diners and loyal returnees feel at home. The interior has an eclectic bistro feel, with traditional French artwork mixing with Moroccan and North African artefacts.  The homely décor is continued through to the French patisserie-style counters, exposed brickwork and old-fashioned log burners, making this the perfect venue for a romantic meal or equally a rowdy family affair.

The menu is similarly wide-ranging and is sure to suit everyone’s tastes. Here you will find traditional French classics, such as fricassee de champignons, also know as garlic mushrooms. Popular dishes are the adventurous and warming Moroccan options, where fresh, locally sourced items are combined with specialist ingredients sourced from France and Morocco to create an authentic, high-quality dining experience. A typical meal could see you start with a quirky option, such as the delicious Roquefort savoury cheesecake with pear and walnut, followed by a decadent flatbread meze platter of lamb and jewelled rice. Moroccan cuisine inherently caters for vegetarians with dishes such as the lentil and butternut squash tagine being a firm favourite with veggies and meat-eaters alike. Moroccan cuisine is also one of the healthiest options available to you, as most of the food is prepared in steam-filled tagines with a tablespoon of olive oil, so you can feast without feeling guilty!

The passion that Steve and Kenza feel for their food is obvious, with special Middle-Eastern nights and one-off cookery classes selling out fast. They also cater for large groups and often prepare wholly unique menus to suit their customers, even down to catering for coeliac diners or those who choose a gluten-free diet, such as making the famous falafel with chickpea flour.

You may be dining in Nottinghamshire, but if you want to be transported to the Moroccan districts of Paris or to a market in Marrakech, be sure to book La Parisienne, Southwell for a one-of-a-kind dining experience.
