We say…

Nestled into the Derbyshire countryside, the Knockerdown Inn and Restaurant is situated close to the picturesque Carsington Water. The establishment opened as the ‘Nock-a-down’ beerhouse in 1838. The present owners have been established at the premises since 1996,  serving an extensive menu to both locals and visitors to the area seven days a week.

Diners can tailor their eating experience according to the seasons. Shelter from the wintery elements and sample the ale of the month before a roaring fire in the low beamed bar area; gather as a larger group in the cosy restaurant or remain at one with the elements and surrounded by countryside in the award winning gardens, complete with pond and patio, during the summer months.

The full and varied menu is characterised by the Knockerdown’s commitment to fresh, locally sourced produce; the fish selection on the menu is freshly sourced from sustainable fisheries and the steaks are sourced locally and of prime quality. If warming food is the order of the day, your favourite pie is sure to feature on the menu and a full range of hot platters includes international options such a lasagne, chilli con carne and authentic curries. A day in the British outdoors can build a mighty appetite and the Knockerdown has the answer in the form of its ‘Monster Grill’. Diners can feast on an extra-large platter featuring several cuts of meat including pork and lamb chops, gammon, sausages and bacon, all served with onion rings, mushrooms, free range eggs and chips; would you take on the challenge?

Vegetarians should look to the specials board for details of that day’s meat-free options, which can include dishes such as the Mexican bean chilli, spinach, mozzarella and cherry tomato pudding. A traditional roast option is served in addition to the full menu on Sundays and is available in several different sizes, priced accordingly. Lunch time diners and those with smaller appetites may choose to select from the diverse Light Bite menu of omelettes, salads, jacket potatoes and well-filled baguettes, served with chips. Finally, the Knockerdown Inn and Restaurant is the ideal choice for young families; after amusing themselves on the two onsite playgrounds, children can refuel on smaller versions of many of the main meals, as well as other options, on the child’s menu. You can bring along that extra special member of the familly too, as the Knockerdown Inn is extremely dog friendly.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor to the area, the Knockerdown Inn and Restaurant, Carsington offers a warm welcome and a hearty, locally sourced meal in traditional surroundings.
