We say…

In the historic town of Clay Cross in North East Derbyshire, you will find Kathmandu Gurkha Restaurant; a delightful venue with a fascinating background. Found directly on the A61, just six miles south of Chesterfield, Kathmandu serves some of the finest Nepalese cuisine in the county.

Housed within a stand-alone venue, the restaurant is every bit as cosy as it is elegant. With a beautifully presented dining room, the venue prides itself on appealing to every guest by adding a touch of modern to its traditional South-Asian décor.

One of the key factors in what makes this restaurant unique is that it is run by former British Army Gurkha Soldier Mr. Prem Bahadur Malla of the 2nd Royal Gurkha Rifles regiment. With such a history, it is clear that the team at Kathmandu are extremely passionate about Nepalese cuisine and Gurkha heritage.

The menu at Kathmandu strives to the very best of traditional Nepalese cooking, while combining modern methods to ensure that every dish is packed with original flavour. At the helm of the kitchen is award-winning Head Chef Mr. Bishnu, who skilfully uses a diverse mixture of fresh flavours and spices to produce one-of-a-kind dishes as well as those that are already a hit with the United Kingdom. Food aficionados will be enticed by the Lasun Khukura Khursani; tender pieces of chicken roasted and marinated in the Tandoor, then cooked in a Kahari using garlic, onions, ginger, tomatoes, spices, green chillies and fresh coriander. Or how about Shank of Lamb cooked with fresh cherry tomatoes, brown onion sauce, potatoes and a delicate blend of Nepalese herbs? Those looking for something closer to home will be very pleased with the South Indian Vindaloo, fabulously rich in taste with black pepper, lemon, garlic, red chillies and tomatoes.

If you are looking to dining in a venue that promises a friendly ambience , a creative menu, and a prize-winning head chef, then look no further than Kathmandu Gurkha Restaurant Derbyshire, where quality is never compromised.
