Excellent Sunday Special for two. Additional costs almost doubled the bill.

Brought our elderly parents. First time visit. We’ll be back. Excellent in all aspects.

Not a huge choice which was a good sign as it was hopefully freshly cooked. Well presented and tasty. The only fault was the coffee which was weak.

We say…

The Izaak Walton Hotel is famed for luxury suites and beautiful surroundings, and is perfectly complemented by the top-quality dining provided by the Haddon Restaurant. This British restaurant not only serves beautiful dishes but offers breath-taking views of the Dovedale valley, making it a perfect choice for a special meal. Dovedale Valley is part of the Dovedale National Nature Reserve at the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, so if you’re heading north for a weekend of scenic sightseeing, or even live nearby the Midlands, the restaurant is perfectly accessible and yet offers an escape into the unspoilt countryside.

The Haddon restaurant nods to its historical background with sympathetic, traditional restorations of antique furniture, fine dining white tablecloths and a warm, welcoming feel. The hotel itself is steeped in history, as it dates as far back as an early 17th century guesthouse visited by the famed angling author and biographer, hence the naming of the hotel after him. In the present day, it is run by owners James Keay and Andy Jeneson, who strive to maintain a hospitable, family-run hotel which balances luxury with friendly service. This is emphasised in the restaurant, which asks that their guests abide by a smart dress code with no trainers or t-shirts.

Local ingredients are showcased at their finest in the Haddon Restaurant menu, and the staff demonstrate their support of local businesses and products. The selection of courses is refined but has something for every palette and dietary requirements. You can expect starters such as the succulent pan-fried pigeon with parma ham, pigeon terrine, hazelnuts, frisee and raspberry balsamic. To follow, sample the sea trout served with crab, parsley, new potatoes and cream sauce. Afterwards, treat yourself to the chocolate ganache with mint sauce and chocolate textures.

The Haddon restaurant is a gorgeous scenic venue for special occasions, so if you’ve got something to celebrate, or fancy treating your group to a high-class dinner, head straight to the Haddon restaurant at the Izaak Walton Hotel.
