First time there, but won't be our last. Wonderful food at Himalayan Gurkha, (I had the Himalayan Chicken) and great service.

All round excellent. Could just do with a hotness rating on all the dishes, one of the 4 took us by surprise!

We say…

Derby city centre is rich in restaurants, but one you want to make some time for is the Himalayan Gurkha restaurant in the heart of the city centre. It can be found on Macklin Street, just minutes from landmarks such as the Derby central library, the Museum and Art Gallery and the Tourist information centre. You’ll love that this family-run establishment is so handily located, as you get the personal service and attention of a small-scale operation but with the bonus of being easily accessible from the city. So, whether you want to visit after work one day or are looking to dine before heading out to a gig or the theatre, head to this restaurant.

Outside, you can see the clean green tiles marking the restaurant out from the others on the street. Enter through a door bearing the greeting ‘Namaste’ and you’ll immediately feel welcomed by the friendly and cheerful staff. Enjoy a drink in the bar area and soak up the traditional decorations mixed with clean, modern furnishings, making this restaurant truly a mix of the Himalayan culture as well as the British home the owners have adopted. Sit down at one of the pleasant tables, covered with traditional cloths and decorations, while you catch up with friends and family.

The food here is a pleasing mix of Indian and Nepalese cuisine, packed with delicate spices and herbs to give the dishes a distinct flavour. You can taste the noodles and rice associated with Tibet and China, as well as traditional Indian spicy curries from the North of the subcontinent. The menu has a bit of something for everyone, we love the Gurkhali soup with dumplings to start followed by a Chicken Nepal with fresh green herbs, or you can opt for the Indian-inspired chicken or lamb Balti with lots of flavour.

Himalayan Gurkha Restaurant in Derby city centre is a splendid choice for someone looking for a warm and casual environment with plenty of tasty food, so make it a priority to visit as soon as you cam.
