    Enjoyed the meal very much.

Regrettably, we found the menu limited and poorly presented, and down-graded since our last visit. There was only one starter item we could enjoy and that was soup, which was luke-warm on arrival. the rowdiness of a nearby group spoilt our evening. The main course was very good, though again the choice was limited.
In all we were disappointed especially as 1) we know The George well and 2) it was our anniversary of 53 years.

We enjoyed our meal, lovely ambience and friendly staff.

We had a most enjoyable lunch and would like to eat there again.

Drive by George's on a weekly basis but have never been inside. Finally decided to book a table and I'm disappointed that I didn't visit sooner! The attention to detail is second to none and the food is absolutely delicious. Can't complain about one single thing! Perfect! Look forward to going again now I know what lies inside!

Georges offers an extensive menu on fine meats such as duck, rabbit, lamb, sea bass and salmon, all coming with fine sides. I had the lamb cutlets with fondant potato. The lamb was still pink in the middle and potatoes were expertly cooked. Everything was homemade from the tagliatelle to the marmalade! The welcome was warm and genuine as we walked in. A highly enjoyable meal with superb wine as well. Truly a fine dining experience.

We say…

Refined British classics at former coaching house turned gastro-hotel in quaint Peak District village.

The George is a pocket of luxury in the muddy-boots territory of Derbyshire’s rolling Peak District.

The restaurant of this plush 3-star hotel in Hathersage presents well-executed Great British favourites like a giant battered fish and chips alongside imaginative (yet no less hearty) one-offs such as salmon cured in Pimms, an Earl Grey parfait for desserts and beer and honey suckling pig.

It’s a romantic, high-end setting for lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, where decor is pared back to bring out all the natural charm expected of a 500 year old building.

Subtle flourishes such as stained glass windows, solid oak and bare leather finishes make for an impressive dining space in this well-reputed Derbyshire hotel.
