Food quality was amazing, very fresh ingredients and fantastic service

Excellent experience at Bonzai once again! I have been a few times, but always ended up choosing a Bento Box. We shared a Sushi platter this time round and couldn't have been happier! All top quality. Highly recommended, we will definitely be returning.

Another great meal at Bonzai in Nottingham! Really good service, good value and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Always enjoy each visit!

Bonzai has the best sushi in Nottingham!

Great as always. New menu has a much better selection, but the classics are still on. Quick and friendly service.

Excellent food and good value for money, friendly staff who were working extremely hard but remained very cheerful

Had the teppanyaki set, flavoursome miso, few selections of sushi and simple mixed starter. Main was very tasty, the pork in chilli delicious. Teriyaki sauce was rich but steak overdone. Overall a tasty meal that was good value for what you got

Bonzai is a great little restaurant, which was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday night, glad I booked a table! Service was brilliant too, a real hidden gem!

Really fresh and tasty sushi! We don't go anywhere else in the city for Japanese food as the portions here are really generous, the atmosphere is lovely and the staff are really friendly. Highly recommended.

We say…

Located on Carlton Street, in close proximity to nightlife favourites such as Lloyds, Cape and Market Bar, you will find a Japanese restaurant called Bonzai. Previously home to Skinny Sumo, Bonzai has ditched the cafeteria-style dining in place of a more sophisticated and authentic experience.

Newly refurbished, Bonzai boasts a bold red, black and white colour scheme and has replaced the previous canteen-style seating with dark wood tables and matching chairs. The restaurant is full of character and the walls are adorned with Japanese artefacts and colourful paintings. In the day time, Bonzai is a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the busy city centre streets whilst in the evening it is a mood-lit and sultry venue perfect for meeting up with friends, an intimate meal for two or a special celebration.

The menu is strictly a Japanese affair, offering all of the flavours, textures and excitement of the Orient in Nottingham city centre. You can expect to tuck into fresh sushi and sashimi including the delicious king prawn tempura futomaki, California Urumaki and Crispy Duck and Miso sauce Temaki.  An extensive Teppan Yaki a la carte menu allows diners to create their own dish and with an extensive choice of seafood and meats such as lobster, beef sirloin and chicken, that can be topped with a whole host of sauces ranging from satay to hot chilli on a bed of your choice of noodles, the options are endless and even the fussiest eater will be able to create a something that they love. A unique Japanese tapas menu is also available that is perfect for first timers looking to sample a bit of everything without committing to a big plate. A range of set Teppan Yaki menus are also available that offer three courses for a very reasonable price and for those looking for a quick bite to eat at lunch time, Bento boxes are available.

Bonzai Japanese restaurant in the Lace Market, Nottingham, is an exciting and authentic addition to the Nottingham restaurant scene. It’s central location and close proximity to many of Nottingham’s most popular nightspots makes it the ideal venue to get together with friends and enjoy a meal before hitting the town and exploring the nightlife, or to relax in after a hard day’s shopping.
