San Carlo in Leicester for high quality Italian cuisine

Leicester city centre is known for being the social centre of Leicestershire, with its vibrant nightlife, shopping, and also the Curve theatre. Often called the curry capital of Britain it is home to a multitude of world cuisines. Whether you are meeting friends for a lively night out or going out on a first date, you are sure to find a great restaurant in Leicester city centre that ticks all the boxes.

San Carlo is renowned for being one of the finest Italian restaurants in Leicester. Just minutes from the rail station it is easily accessible and offers excellent authentic Italian cuisine. The interior of San Carlo is a vast open space with stage lights mounted on scaffold, lots of greenery and even open parasols over some of the tables that makes it feel like a large covered terrace or marquee. During the day, light streams in through the windows whilst at night the lighting lends an air of dusk. With surfaces of blond wood, steel and glass, which are softened by plants and linen napery, the inspired design of this restaurant transports one out of Britain and into larger, warmer climes where eating out is as vital as breathing. A display of fresh fish at the entrance hints at the specialty of the house and adds to the faraway feel.

Highly trained chefs preparing quality Italian cuisine

The chefs here were trained by Aldo Zilli, so you can expect good things from them and their team. Working from an open kitchen with a wood burning stove, seafood is their speciality and the menu is vast. Starting with a huge range of antipasti, choices include a first class fish soup with croutons or avocado with crab, baked in lobster sauce, cream, brandy, tomato and parmesan sauce. The Italian salami and parma ham served with artichoke and fried pecorino cheese looks fantastic.

Pizzas are freshly made in the wood fired oven and there is a range of pasta and risotto that includes a dish of very thin egg pasta with hand-picked Cornish crab, sweet Sicilian cherry tomatoes, saffron and a touch of cream. Fish is delivered daily and the specials are featured on the blackboard. For main course you could try a pan fried chicken supreme in dolcelatte and cream sauce with roast radicchio or pan fried sirloin steak with porcini mushrooms, smoked parma ham, red wine and cream reduction.
