Just off London Road in Sheffield, Rossi’s has been serving exquisite Italian food for nearly 30 years. One of the best loved restaurants in Sheffield, it is a popular spot for dining whatever the occasion. So whether you are planning a romantic lunch or a special family night out, you can be sure to find everything that you need at Rossi’s.
Housed within a huge old bank, Rossi’s is a glorious vision of Italianate marble, with pillars and statues holding up the heavens. The cavernous dining room features long elegant windows and opulent crystal chandeliers. Gazing up at the painted ceilings, you could be in the Sistine chapel itself. The sheer size of this room creates an old grandeur; a timeless elegance, that only the Italians could pull off quite so casually. This is old school grace; Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. Filled with the sounds of people enjoying great food in good company, yet large enough to retain complete privacy, it is easy to see why this great Italian restaurant has been popular for almost three decades.
An extensive menu of classic Italian cuisine
There is a good array of starters, many of them familiar, almost retro, classics. Others are simply good combinations of flavours such as Uova alla Florentina; eggs and tomato topped with fresh spinach and béchamel then oven baked or Rucola, Pera E Formoggiocaprino; a rocket, pear and goats cheese salad with a honey and walnut dressing. For main course there is a wide selection of pizza and pasta as well as plenty of meat, fish and vegetable dishes to choose from.
Classic cuisine with simple good quality ingredients just about sums up the a la carte main courses. Filetto Rossini is a fillet steak cooked in a red wine and Madeira sauce topped with pate and served on a crouton. Or if you prefer seafood, then you could try Frutti Misti di Pesci, a mixed seafood dish of king prawns, whitebait, calamari, scallops, mussels, prawns and sardines. Chicken dishes include Pollo Diana, a twist on the steak dish of the same name with mushrooms in a creamy brandy and mustard sauce.
There is a sharing dish, designed for two people; Casseruola di Pesce. A rich seafood casserole, with mixed seafood and king prawns in white wine sauce, it is served with rice and bread. A sensuous meal, and good value for money, it is the ideal dish for an intimate occasion.
