In the heart of Northampton, at Number 82 Derngate, you will find The Dining Room; the restaurant of The Charles Rennie Mackintosh House and Galleries. The stylish contemporary interior is beautifully understated in white with polished oak floors that echo the stark yet calming feel of an art gallery. Pristine paintwork is softened by a few framed prints and each window frames a single vase of flowers that adds a relaxing pop of green to the small room. Although small, the actual dining room features a number of original windows that bring character to the room and allow the light to flood through.
Contemporary British and European menu
The menu at The Dining Room is based on locally sourced seasonal ingredients and offers contemporary British and European cuisine as well as breakfast up to 11.45am and a range of sandwiches and snacks. The breakfast menu offers classic dishes such as eggs Benedict and Florentine using free range eggs and award winning bacon from a local farm. Ciabatta sandwiches are filled with an array of quality fillings such as Woburn black ham, mature cheddar and chutney; all come served with crisps, salad and winter coleslaw or hand cut chips on request.
From the a la carte you can order starters that include Scottish smoked salmon with dill potato salad and poached quail egg or mozzarella wrapped in Parma ham, pan fried and served with pesto dressed salad. For main course there is a sun-dried tomato and leek frittata or chicken roulade filled with spinach and cream cheese wrapped in Spanish air-dried ham served with Portobello mushrooms, buttered leeks, baby potatoes and a truffle dressing. Other main courses include pork fillet with poached apple in cider and wholegrain mustard, crackling, braised cabbage and bubble and squeak cake. Vegetarian choices include butternut squash and potato gnocchi with mushroom sage butter sauce, pinenuts and rocket.
