Christmas is coming! That’s right – it’s the most wonderful time of the year, and it’s only six weeks away! As the glorious county of Leicestershire begins its Yuletide preparations, you might be wondering how you are going to celebrate. We have put together a quick and easy guide to the best festive activities, as well as some excellent restaurants to dine at if you’re looking to escape the holiday hustle and bustle.

Christmas Lights Switch-On – Sunday 16th November

To kick off the season in style, head down to Humberstone Gate West in Leicester city centre for an evening of music and entertainment as the city is lit up with festive lights. After the countdown, the Light the Night Festival will continue the celebrations with fantastic displays and street performance arts. A Winter Food Festival will be taking place at Leicester Market throughout the day too! Switch-on at 4:30pm.

Since the lights will be illuminating the city throughout December, why not make an evening of it by dining at a superb local restaurant? Casa Romana on Albion Street are offering a European-style dinner for just £25 per person! Or if you’re looking for somewhere to take a large group, MemSaab on Highcross Street have a superb Christmas Party Menu for £29.50 per person (minimum of 10 people)!

Christmas Craft Fair at The Guildhall – 29th & 30th November

If you’re looking to buy a thoughtful gift, there is no place better than the Guildhall. The Christmas Craft Fair will temporarily be home to some of the most beautiful and original stalls, making for the perfect alternative shopping experience! Feast your eyes upon a range of handmade arts and crafts including jewellery, textiles, ceramics, and much more!

We all know how shopping builds up quite an appetite! Why not pre-book a table at Fat Cat, which is just a few minutes away? Both their festive buffet menu and 3 course Christmas menu offer a delectable selection of winter warmers! Please be aware that you will need to book 7 days in advance for these menus so there’s no time to waste!

Christmas Fayre and Santa’s Grotto at Snibston Museum – Sunday 7th December

Ideal for families, the Snibston Discovery Muesum will be offering a world of seasonal delights this December! Not only will the kids get to meet Santa in his twinkly Grotto, but the whole family will be treated to live music, singing, entertainment, craft stalls, and plenty more!

If you’re looking for somewhere to dine after all the fun, La Torre is very accommodating to families. Their festive lunch and dinner menus can be booked through Go dine any day of the week so you don’t need to worry about a thing!

You can tuck into a traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings, or opt for something a little different such as grilled fillet of sea bass with lime sauce and chives.

Windows on New Walk – For something extra extravagant, you can relax and celebrate at the award-winning Windows on New Walk at the Belmont Hotel. Tuck into a 3 course Christmas dinner, plus champagne sorbet, coffee and mince pies for £67.95 per person! Children under the age of 12 eat for only £34!

The Quorn Exchange – Finally, in the Loughborough-Quorn area, you will not want to miss this superb six course Christmas Day Lunch!  The Quorn Exchange are really pushing the boat out this year! Enjoy a starter, sorbet, main, desserts, cheese platter and coffee with mince pies, all for £80 per person (£40 per child)!

If you don’t want to pay Christmas Day Lunch prices, then why not treat the family on Boxing Day instead? Mixx at The Marriott Hotel and The Golden Fleece in South Croxton are both offering excellent Boxing Day Carvery Lunches for under £30! You can’t go wrong.
