The Woodhouse in Leicester for award winning Christmas food

Elegant in tones of pink and grey, with the welcome of oak beams and armchairs by the log fire, The Woodhouse is an award winning British restaurant in Leicester that holds 2 AA rosettes for its fine food. Offering Christmas menus for lunch and dinner, as well as a 4 course lunch on Christmas Day, this is the perfect place to kick back over the festive season with some great food and excellent service.

Modern British food on the Christmas Lunch menu

The Christmas Lunch menu at The Woodhouse begins with choices such as parsnip soup, maple soup and walnuts or Glenmorangie cured salmon with beetroot and crisp prawns. Also on offer for starter is chicken liver and brandy parfait with granola and spiced bread crisps. Main course choices are local turkey with a crisp pork and chestnut bon bon, pan fried pheasant with pulled leg hash and mulled red cabbage, or blade of beef with horseradish mash and a bourguignon garnish. The vegetarian option is a caramelised onion tarte tatin with juniper creamed kale and pumpkin polenta chips. Desserts include a taste of chocolate orange or mulled fruit crème brulee with marnier figs and clotted cream shortbread.

Christmas dinner desserts with a modernist twist

The Christmas dinner menu is similar, with alternatives such as parsnip soup with maple ham hock, wild mushroom risotto with truffle mousse or fillet of west coast halibut with saffron pommes puree, Parma ham, caper and shrimp beurre noisette. Sherry trifle appears in quotation marks so could well be a modernist cuisine take on the classic dessert. Dessert alternatives to the lunch menu include Christmas pudding or a cheese board.

Christmas Day lunch begins with champagne on arrival, followed by parsnip soup with maple ham hock. A starter platter is served of smoked salmon croquet monsieur, cucumber and lime, duck liver parfait, cinnamon brioche and hazelnut. Main course includes turkey with pork and pistachio terrine or scotch beef fillet with truffle, wild mushrooms and garlic pommes puree. The fish option is fillet of brill with lobster and shellfish bisque; the vegetarian is cauliflower with Bareham blue cream. Dessert is a mixed plate of dark chocolate, vanilla pannacotta, clementine gel, meringue, and honeycomb tuille.
