Oundle Mill are currently advertising their Christmas menus but you will need to hurry; booking for Christmas Day ends on 25th November 2013 and for New Years Eve on 30th November 2013. Christmas party menus also need pre booking 2 weeks in advance so it is best to check the details on the site.
The Christmas Lunch menu includes, for starter, spiced parsnip soup with buttermilk and cumin scones, or confit chicken terrine with raisin jam and house made sourdough bread. Main course features a traditional dinner of free range Norfolk turkey breast with all the trimmings or Bulwick estate venison suet pudding with creamed potato, sprouts, and a chestnut Madeira sauce. You can finish with plum pudding or cranberry and walnut tart served with eggnog Chantilly.
The Christmas Dinner menu has a range of choices for starter such as pressed terrine of St Georges chicken and leek or Fivemiletown goat’s cheese with beetroot, pine nut crumble, lemon gel and honeycomb. For main course you can enjoy haunch of Bulwick Estate venison with creamed sprouts and smoked pancetta honey parsnips or, for those who are partial to fish, there is baked Cornish hake with Jansson’s temptation (a Swedish casserole of potatoes and onions), River Exe mussels, vine tomatoes and anchovies. For dessert the choices include mulled wine jelly or Christmas pudding ice cream with spiced gingerbread.
Dine out on Christmas Day
On Christmas Day you can enjoy 4 courses beginning with mulled wine and sausage rolls. To follow there are several indulgent choices including terrine of Elton Estate pheasant with Agen prunes, Savoy cabbage and pistachio dressing or Severn and Wye smoked salmon with potato cake, dill crème fraiche and caviar. Main course features traditional turkey with all the trimmings or roast sirloin of beef with creamed spinach, turnip and potato gratin, and mulled shallots. Fish and vegetarian options are also available. Following all this is a refresher of pink grapefruit granita before a decadent dessert of Christmas pudding with spiced clotted cream or gorgeous dark chocolate ganache with walnut praline and clementine. To finish you will be served coffee and mince pies.
The New Years Eve menu begins with choices such as Jerusalem artichoke veloute with truffle cream for starter and main courses that include local pheasant, fondant potato, braised red cabbage and chestnut gravy. Warm pear and quince Bakewell tart with vanilla bean custard or chocolate and black cherry arctic roll with sour cherry compote are amongst the tempting dessert choices.
