Opulence restaurant in Derby are offering a range of festive menus, including Christmas Day lunch, festive party nights and a Boxing Day Jazz Brunch. Who in their right minds wouldn’t want to do Boxing Day Jazz Brunch in surroundings that could have been built purely for that purpose? Also on offer is the ‘festive chef’s table experience’, a full tasting menu in the private kitchen viewing room.
Highlights from the festive tasting menu include seared wood pigeon with parsley and hazelnut salad with juniper and port glaze as well as Carpaccio of cured salmon and tuna with pickled cucumber, mustard cress and crunchy capers. Seared hand dived scallops are served with cauliflower macaroons and balsamic powder; a truly modern dish that blends cutting edge technique with well paired flavours. Desserts on the tasting menu include passion fruit parfait with pain perdu or custard ice cream with red pepper, coffee bean and sea salt caramel.
Treat yourself to lunch on Christmas Day
The Christmas Day lunch menu begins with a selection of festive canapés followed by choices such as terrine of ham hock and smoked chicken with mustard fruits and sourdough or carrot and cucumber cannelloni with goat’s cheese, apple and tomato salad. Sloe gin and cranberry sorbet refreshes the palate ready for the main course. As well as fish and vegetarian options the Christmas Day menu includes roasted turkey breast with turkey leg and stuffing roulade, roasted roots and tarragon gravy. Desserts include lemon sabayon pots with crème fraiche sorbet and raspberry sorbet.
Boxing Day Jazz Brunch is served between 10.30am and 2.00pm with classic brunch dishes such as poached eggs Benedict with Black Forest ham on English muffin or scrambled eggs with shaved pastrami on rye; all accompanied by a live jazz band.
