Old Market Square (map)
‘Tis the time of year when Market Square is turned into a fantastic winter wonderland! Enjoy ice skating, plenty of stalls, and a fantastic German hot wine and beer heated cabin! This market runs throughout winter, from 19th November to the 24th of December and is a great place to do your festive shopping – definitelys somewhere to visit time and time again to get you in the festive mood for Christmas in Nottingham! After your wander, try Loch Fyne‘s festive menu, or go for a bite at Fothergills! Both are just off Market Square and have fantastic Christmas menus (drool over Loch Fyne’s festive menu below!)
Wollaton Hall is easily the most Christmassy stately home around the festive period. Not only is the house and museum breathtaking, you also need to see the massive herds of wild deer that have made the park their home! Take a stroll around the grounds, they’re so pretty that the latest Batman film used Wollaton Hall house, both inside and outside, for Batman’s home!
If you get tired after some sledding, dog walking or general wandering around the Park, check out the map for restaurants near to the stately home! We recommend Amores in Beeston, their festive menu includes everything from Italian meatballs to a decadent calzone, a perfect festive treat if you don’t fancy turkey! It’s also ideal for a start to your Christmas in Nottingham, as the park is open for walks to work up an appetite, and is only a couple of miles from the city centre if you want to head there for dinner after. Aurora looks amazing and features plenty of options for gluten-free diners and veggies as well as delectable traditional options.
Nottingham city centre (maps:Nottingham Playhouse / Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall)
You either love them or hate them, but most people love a traditional Christmas pantomime! This year’s offerings range from the Theatre Royal’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to the Nottingham Playhouse’s Sleeping Beauty. It’s a perfect activity for Christmas Eve, or if you need something to keep the kids distracted with in the run-up to Christmas! CAST is ideally situated for anyone visiting the Playhouse, it’s the theatre’s own restaurant and has a great-value Christmas party menu!
