Hambleton Hall in Rutland for Christmas in spectacular style

The magnificent Hambleton Hall in Rutland needs little or no introduction so I will jump straight in to the Christmas menus. There is a wide range of seasonal events going on over the festive period, from the Christmas party menu in the private dining room, to a full dinner dance on New Year’s Eve. In between you will find seasonal festive menus and a spectacular Christmas lunch on Christmas Day itself.

The Christmas party menu is available for parties of 6 to 16 people and the events are held in ‘the study’; the private dining room at Hambleton Hall. You start with crab raviolo in lemon grass and ginger bisque. Next there is sirloin of beef with Jacob’s Ladder (a special short ribs recipe) and puree of ceps, or roast breast of pheasant with barley risotto and root vegetables. Dessert follows with lime meringue pie, passion fruit soufflé or chocolate truffle flavoured with salted caramel.

Festive lunch throughout December

The December festive lunch includes slow cooked turkey wing with Brussels sprouts, chestnuts, cranberries and thyme; a nod to the flavours of Christmas. Sea bass is served with mushroom salsify and for dessert there are Christmas pudding soufflés. As well as these choices the chef creates a daily specials menu for the December festive lunch. The meal ends with coffee and homemade chocolates.

On Christmas Day, lunch begins with wild mushroom and tarragon consommé and is followed by foie gras with sourdough. A salad of crab with brown crab meat ice cream and pomelo is served before the main course of roast turkey with all the trimmings. The next dish brought to the table is ‘a taste of Christmas pudding’ which is followed by a dessert of chocolate and olive oil with salted caramel and baked banana. The meal is rounded off by coffee and homemade chocolates.

Lavish New Year’s Eve celebrations at Hambleton Hall

The New Year’s Eve celebrations begin with a glass of champagne on arrival; more champagne is served to herald the arrival of midnight. Each course that is served comes with a select wine that has been expertly paired for the occasion. The meal starts with minestrone and chorizo tortellini before a decadent slice of foie gras on sourdough. A fish course is served of pan fried red mullet with sea buckthorn before the main course of roast Goosenargh duck with caramelised endive and spiced lentils. A British cheeseboard precedes another modern interpretative dish; ‘taste of passion fruit’ and the meal comes to a close over coffee and homemade chocolates. The dance floor is dropped after dinner so that you can dance into the New Year.
