Once again a lovely well cooked sunday lunch enjoyed by all the family. Very friendly staff who, although really busy, still found time time to ask if there was any more they could do for us. Nothing any trouble. many thanks to all concerned

    Excellent food and friendly staff.

There were some good dishes, but the main and dessert were very disappointing.

Very friendly staff, plenty of food. Will visit again and book one of the rooms.

A real gem! The staff are wonderful, the food is delicious and good portion sizes, the place itself is really charming and the outside area is lovely for enjoying a few drinks in. Can't wait to go again with all the family.

We say…

The Dovecote Inn is a beautiful and unique country inn and restaurant in the historic village of Laxton in Nottinghamshire. At the very centre of village life, The Dovecote provides a warm welcome, tasty bite to eat and comfortable rooms for residents and visitors alike.

Located in the very centre of the village on Cross Hill, The Dovecote is surrounded by things to do and places to see such as the Beth Shalom, the National Holocaust Centre, Sherwood Forest, the traditional home of Robin Hood, and the Minster of Southwell. In addition to its idyllic surroundings, there are also fantastic transport links to and from Laxton, with the A1 just  a five minute drive away and Newark-on-Trent, Nottingham and Lincoln within easy commuting distance. With plenty of on-site parking, a visit to The Dovecote is ideal for a weekend away or simply a delicious meal away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

The restaurant at The Dovecote Inn is cosy, homely and welcoming with plenty of character and a rustic charm. Head Chef Eddie and Kerry take immense pride in using only the freshest, locally-sourced seasonal produce and ingredients to create their tempting menus which see traditional dishes and classic flavour combinations fused with modern influences and a touch of innovation. With a light bites lunch menu available throughout the day as well as a well thought out a la carte and a mouth-watering Sunday lunch, The Dovecote Inn is able to cater for all occasions. Whilst the menus change frequently to showcase the best of British produce, the creamed wild mushrooms served on home-made toasted sourdough bread with shaved parmesan is the perfect dish to start off with before moving on to the 10 hour pot roast breast of lamb with rosemary and parmesan polenta mash, Lincolnshire asparagus and a red wine and redcurrant jus before finishing everything off with the devilishly indulgent profiteroles with honeycomb ice cream and warm chocolate sauce.

The restaurant also frequently hosts various themed nights ranging from gourmet evenings to a taste of America and special menus for occasions such as Mother’s day, Father’s day and Valentine’s. These events are incredibly popular and draw diners in from miles around so if you’re planning on hosting your special occasion or enjoying one of the evenings, we highly recommend that you book in advance to guarantee a table.

It’s easy to see why The Dovecote Inn is much loved by the residents of Laxton as well as visitors to the area. It’s welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious menus and picturesque surroundings make it the ideal venue for a casual bite to eat at lunch, Sunday lunch with the family, a dinner date for two or a weekend away.
