Tucked away on The Moor in the centre of Sheffield’s shopping district is Zing Vaa; the oldest and most famous of all Chinese restaurants in Sheffield. Zing Vaa first opened its doors more than 50 years ago and the restaurant is still going strong with a loyal customer base that is being added to daily. The venue is unassuming and the entrance is easily missed as it is situated between two units but step downstairs and the hustle and bustle of the city will fade rapidly from your mind as you move into a separate world.

The restaurant has been passed down through generations and Alan Chung has owned and run Zing Vaa for the past twelve years. He has brought the dining room up to date and it offers a very pleasant dining space that can seat up to 110 guests. The dining room is dark and welcoming and scattered with authentic Chinese artefacts to bring a small slice of China to the streets of Sheffield. With a range of table sizes including the very popular circular dining tables, Zing Vaa are able to cater for a wide variety of group sizes.

Zing Vaa uses fresh, authentic ingredients and every dish is made to order, ensuring that diners get their food at the moment when flavour, taste, smell and temperature are all at their optimum. You can expect to find many classic dishes on the menu, with starters such as Aromatic Crispy Duck and the Hot Mixed Platters proving particularly popular. Main courses showcase popular Chinese dishes such as Lemon Chicken, Beef in Oyster sauce with mixed vegetables and Szechuan-style King Prawns in a Bird’s nest. The ‘Sizzling dishes’ are also firm favourites with diners, being served on a sizzling cast iron plate with vegetables and a variety of meat and sauce options.

Overall

Excellent food, service and value. Only knocked a point off the overall as the toilets are pretty cramped although clean. Hadnt been to the zing vaa for many years and returned because of gig at the plug across the road but glad I did as is as good as I remember it. Must be a good sign that half the restaurant was filled by chinese people. Also had wheelchair user in our party and easy access at the back and help from staff. Will be back for more banqueting - great choices.

Excellent meal - far too much too eat! Takeaway provided and swapped a meal in vegetarian choice with no problems... highly recommended - and really excellent value...

Overall

Always seems so busy, went in for a spot of lunch and when we were leaving at 3 there were still people walking in, not bad for a Monday. Easy to see why though, very good authentic Chinese, pleasant surroundings and friendly well presented staff.
