Situated on Derngate in the centre of Northampton is the well-reputed Vineyard restaurant. Featured on Channel 4’s The Restaurant Inspector, the Vineyard has been open for over 20 years serving fine dining cuisine in relaxed surroundings.
This family-run business has built up a fantastic reputation in Northampton over the years for serving the best fresh fish in the area with a different special available daily according to the latest and freshest catch. The restaurant is light and airy and decorated in a neutral palette of creams and fern greens with simple black and white paintings adorning the walls.
The menu is wide ranging and offers something to suit everyone’s tastes. The seafood dishes range from king scallops and prawns to beautiful halibut and monkfish, which are always perfectly cooked. The grilled monkfish wrapped in smoked salmon and set on a beurre noir sauce is just one of the superb specialities that the Vineyard have on offer. The restaurant aims to have a wide selection of great fish dishes always on the menu but there is also a good selection of meat dishes if you or your dining partners are not seafood lovers. Saddle of lamb topped with Portobello mushrooms and melted brie is a firm favourite with regulars and breast of duck in a fruit chutney with redcurrant and balsamic glaze is an excellent alternative.
Tina the restaurant manager is a very friendly and knowledgeable host making sure that you will always enjoy first class service and a welcoming atmosphere. She has an extensive love and knowledge of top class wines and advises diners on the perfect wines to accompany any dish.
Due to its close proximity to the Derngate and The Royal Theatre, The Vineyard restaurant in Northampton is a very popular pre-theatre dining destination. With fantastic pre-theatre offers it is no surprise that this venue is packed day in and day out. It is perfectly set up to cater for larger parties as well as couples and more intimate groups. Booking is highly recommended.

Once again great food and service. Seasonal / lunch staff were great - very attentive and friendly. Nicley decorated for Xmas and a Wedding Lunch as well. The steaks and Duck were great with no fat at all and just melted in your mouth.

As ever very welcoming and friendly. They take time to get to know their customers and remember you and it always feels like dining at friends rather than at a stuffy restaurant - the pies are fantatstic def. try them. We will see you again soon

As usual a great welcome and great food. It is not like visiting a restaurant it is like 'dining with friends'. As ever relaxed and nothing is too much bother - again ladies thanks for a great night.

The reputation of this restaurant locally is such that we have been meaning to go there for years, and a family birthday at last gave us the perfect excuse. The food and staff are excellent - it did not disappoint on any level and i would recommend it to anyone. Thanks to all at The Vineyard for a brilliant evening.

Had to refill toilet roll holder only because spares were under hand basin. Delightful meal however slightly off putting was smell of smoke from rear of bar. Cheese cake portion was unfortunately quite small. Apple pie delicious and ample!

Booked for the pre theatre meal. Fairly good service although we did think the waitress could have been more friendly towards us. I did not appreciate the table being cleared as soon as we had finished.
