Sitting proudly in the historic town centre of Belper, The Lion Hotel is steeping in history dating back to its roots as a coaching inn during the 18th century. Instantly identifiably by its white frontage and black beams, The Lion Hotel still acts as a place of respite for visitors and locals alike as it is situated no more than three minutes’ walk from Belper rail station.
The hotels’ restaurant, Twenty Four, adds a modern and contemporary edge to this traditional building and brings the venue right into the 21st century. The restaurant maintains many of the original features of the building including the grand wooden beams that line the ceilings and the original leaded windows. These elements add character to the restaurant whilst being complemented by modern touches such as the beautifully polished floors and leather seating areas. It offers a cosy and romantic atmosphere that makes it ideal for couples and special occasions.
The team at Twenty Four give every guest a warm welcome, reinforcing the relaxed bistro style dining that serves the venue so well. The menu offer classic British dishes and has a wide scope and offers the sophisticated cuisine that you would expect in a well-executed Gastro pub. Every dish is exquisitely presented from the Smoked Salmon wrapped delicately around cream cheese with chives and served with salad as a starter, to the roasted poussin with sage and onion butter, Lincolnshire poacher mash and seasonal buttered vegetables for mains, and finishing with the chocolate and Grand Marnier mousse with pistachio biscotti.
Twenty Four are famed for their Sunday roasts and their competitively priced set course lunches and dinners are incredibly good value. This is a flexible venue that has something to offer everyone. A visit is highly recommended.
