Unfortunately Tonic is now closed for the foreseeable future.

In the heart of Nottingham in the upmarket Chapel quarter of the city lies the chic bar and restaurant, Tonic. Located on Chapel Bar, just off Market Square, Tonic is nestled among a collection of other drinking and dining establishments that line this popular stretch of the city.

The exterior may appear understated but set inside and you will discover a vast and stunning dining area. Designed by one of the UK’s leading interior designers, Tonic’s décor is cool and sophisticated whilst maintaining a welcoming and warm ambience. Bathed in atmospheric light, Tonic comes complete with an exclusive balcony bar and a high-tech, attention grabbing video art installation and dramatic booth seating.

The open plan kitchen means that diners are able to watch their food being prepared by the highly skilled Chefs. All food is cooked to order and there is an emphasis on natural flavours and colours. Sourcing the best seasonal local produce, Tonic cater for all; offering a menu to please diners of all tastes, needs and time constraints. The menu changes with the seasons and currently features dishes such as the ‘Old Spot’ Pork Tenderloin served with Pommes Anna, Apples, Pumpkin and a Cider Dressing; Roast Sea Bass on a bed of tomato and lemon risotto with a red pepper sauce and basil flavours, and Roasted Goosnargh Chicken Breast and Stuffed Leg with a potato and spinach terrine, carrots and a red wine jus. There is also a good selection of vegetarian dishes on the menu as well as a value for money pre-theatre and early evening menu.

A true rising star in the Nottingham restaurant scene, Tonic’s impressive attention to detail has earned them the ‘Best Newcomer’ as well as being runners up in ‘Best Design’ and ‘Best Use of Local Produce’ in the Nottingham Restaurant Awards 2007. This recognition was followed up in the 2008 Awards in which Tonic was awarded runner up in the Nottingham restaurant of the year.

Whether it’s a quick bite, a group get together or a lingering intimate affair, Tonic is the ideal choice; a true feast for all the senses.

Overall

Really disappointing evening. Pre booked for a special birthday for 8.00pm. Arrived at 8.05 to a very busy restaurant mostly made up of walk-in both upstairs and down due to the Olympic torch celebrations in the Market Square. We were asked to sit and have a drink as our table was not ready but I was too hungry to drink I just wanted to eat. The front of house person reluctantly showed us to our table and after 10 mins we had to flag a waitress to our table just to take the wine order. We eventually ordered our food and had to wait a total of 45 minutes before the starter came out. In fairness they did say how unexpectedly busy they were and that we would have to wait a bit for our food. I asked if they had some bread so as to stave of my hunger a bit. I thought as a gesture they might have offered this as complimentary but no, we were charged for it. The other thing that really spoilt a special evening was the football. They had it on so loud downstairs.
