Lovely relaxing setting for a tasty Sunday lunch with friends.

Excellent meals ....coffee bit strong and had to keep asking for more milk only had 1 little jug between 6 of us...but they soon gave us some more....Been a few times now and not had a bad meal yet..Fully recommend but best to book a table.

Great waiter and lovely table. Think the food was over priced for what it was.

Have eaten st the Silk Mill a number of times with varying success in terms of the food. This time though was one of the best. The food was delicious, my only criticism would be a lack of vegetables with my main course, it would have been good if the waiter had mentioned the need to order as a side however other than that it was delicious.

    Good meal.

    Good meal, good staff.

Beautiful meal made even better with extra gravy.

    Good meal & excellent staff.

Excellent dinner at the Silk Mill. With great friendly service.

Service was impeccable, friendly and knowledgable about the food and drink.

Even though it was a quiet Monday we still felt cosy and it had a nice ambience. It's always my first choice because it's exactly what I like for a cosy meal out and tasty food!

    Waited 45 minutes for food.
Food disappointment - Yorkshire burnt pork not good
This isn't normal the food is usually very good.
We mentioned to staff and got a discount which was a nice gesture.

Been here before so I know the food is usually good. Thought I'd try the fish finger sandwich this time. Sorry to say I wasn't impressed, two fish fingers are not enough for the price. Admittedly they are home made but there was more batter than fish. If this had been my first experience of the food, I doubt I would go again. I've no problem with paying a little over the odds for food when I know it's worth it.

Good quality, reasonable price and service with a smile!

I've eaten here numerous times and keep returning. Derby has some great restaurants so competition is ever present and the food served at The Silk Mill never fails to be superb in a fantastic setting. Highly recommend.

Food was fabulous, ham and eggs with chunky skin on fries. It was delicious, the ham was tender, melt in the mouth, wonderful. My family and I had great service, loved the food and the staff are really friendly. The Silk Mill will be visited by us often.

Our meal was excellent and was very satisfied with Go dine's prompt answer and easy booking process.

Really enjoyed our family meal at The Silk Mill, interesting menu & all well made. Great service. Would highly recommend and visit again.

It was amazing food very good and good value for money we would definitely book again.

Great beer and cider at the Silk Mill. Home cooked food which is different from mainstream and plentiful. Excellent service in very challenging circumstances. Our waiter Chris was knowledgeable, extremely helpful and genuinely attentive. Will definitely be back.

Loved the food and drink (had chicken shop) the only downfall was that the vegetables were a little sparse. It also took over an hour to receive the food after ordering. Having said that, the staff were very friendly and helpful despite running around like blue arsed flies and the mulled cider was delicious.

Top class food and drink at The Silk Mill, good service, great atmosphere and value for money! Our Fave Derby pub, we shall be back soon!

Had to wait a short while between courses, but worth it!

We had the cheese board for starters it was lovely. The burgers were very nice we will return soon! Amy our server was very friendly but not overpowering, all in all a great experience.

We had a delicious meal at The Silk Mill, the lemon meringue pie with elderberry sorbet was amazing!

Enjoyed Sunday lunch last week at the Silk Mill. Service and staff were excellent though had to question the price quoted for 2 course to the price on the menu which had just gone up in price. Good atmosphere and surroundings. Will go back there soon!

Fantastic choice of food at The Silk Mill, arrived quickly and lovely service from the bar staff to restaurant staff. Will definitely return again. 5*

    Great food and great value

Can highly recommend the hommity pie! Side order of chips were delicious too. Service great, atmosphere good - no complaints, we'll be back!

Really good evening out at The Silk Mill. Sharing dish portions on the large side!!

Really good produce, cooked very well, four different meals all really enjoyed.

Great food massive portions at The Silk Mill!

Six of us had an excellent meal on Saturday tea time. Rabbit was on the menu which is quite unusual but a nice change. The chicken pie was delicious. We only had one slight criticism came from those of us who had very tender lamb Henry. We felt the amount of meat was rather large compared to the accompanying potato & vegetables. The service was brilliant nothing was too much trouble. One of our favourite places in Derby to eat.

Service was great but not in your face, Jayne had a steak which was cooked to perfection. I had the lamb henry which was very nice and well presented. I had a cider and Jayne had a sauvignon blanc which went down very well. Early booking is recommended as it is a very popular place.

    Sunday lunch: April 2016
    - Staff were very welcoming they know the menu and all showed great customer service which was lovely .
    - The menu was different. We were disappointed with the prawn and whitebait starter 1/2 pint o'prawns was 45% lettuce 45% sauce and 10% prawns. The whitebait was not the best starter, some were strong and many stuck together.
-The hock and pickle was lovely,
    - Roast dinners were lovely, nice meat, lots of veg, menu stated pink beef and it was puddings. Tea Ice-cream not my cup of tea at all . Ship wreck tart nice, but pastry very dry and needed old fashioned custard in my mind.
    - Starter was on a very stained and split wood board I'd put it on the fire and use good old fashioned plates and dishes

We would recommend and will return main course is well worth it. We had paid 2 hours parking but needed to add more money as 2 hours was not long enough.

Thought the service and the food quality at the Silk Mill was excellent and will definitely be be booking again in the near future.

We had an absolutely fantastic time at The Silk Mill. The bar was heaving on arrival. This is testament to the great beers and ciders available here. The food was top draw. Hearty, plenty of menu choices and very, very tasty. I can highly recommend!

Very friendly staff, nice fresh food, our second visit will to The Silk Mill not be our last!

Good beer and great roast beef at The Silk Mill.

Cannot fault your service and the quality of your food.

We say…

The Silk Mill is a unique cider and ale house, as well as a fantastic restaurant, located in the heart of Derby city centre in the historic Cathedral Quarter. It’s ideal if you’ve been exploring the city centre, enjoying a day of shopping, or are just looking for a high-quality, informal restaurant for a treat. It’s easy to find as it’s right next to the Derby Cathedral, the Silk Mill park and, unsurprisingly, the Derby Silk Mill. The added benefit of nearby street parking makes it a popular choice for many diners in the city centre.

The restaurant is spectacular inside, and is the perfect embodiment of a traditional pub that has moved with the times without losing its classic charm. You’ll find comfy pub-style booth and stool seating juxtaposed with understated exposed brick walls, as well as occasional traditional touches such as portraits and cleverly draped Union Jacks. You’ll also enjoy the roaring fire in winter months, or can take a look at the cute printed wallpaper, quirky wall decorations, and attractive lighting.

The menu is strongly influenced by British heritage, whether that’s our love of fish and chips, fine Victorian dining, or retro steak recipes. As you peruse the menu, it may be difficult to decide upon a dish, as they all look appealing. We’d recommend trying the Derbyshire oatcake with sauté mushrooms, spinach, and a fried egg from the snack menu to have with some drinks. We also love the Bishop sandwich of honey-roast ham, stilton, and a creamed leek toastie with fresh bloomer bread and chunky chips. For a main course, try the butcher menu’s offering of Tangle pie, or go for the tempting Brixed Grill option if you fancy fish. Don’t skip on desserts, though, as you’ll love the tasty Chocolate Rolo Brownie.

The Silk Mill is a perfect balance of tradition and innovation, and you’re sure to enjoy you dining experience if you choose this for any kind of meal in Derby city centre.
