a very good meal in a lovely dining area. a highly enjoyable evening.
In the centre of Chesterfield, within easy walking distance of the rail station, is the beautiful and quaint Old Post restaurant. Situated on Holywell Street, this pub and restaurant is rumoured to be the third oldest building in Chesterfield.
The Old Post is a family-run affair with Mary and Hugh Cocker at the helm. The duo have put their heart and soul into the Old Post and have been rewarded with an AA rosette and recognition in the local area as well as nationally; being voted as one of the top ten restaurants in the UK.
The restaurant has been lovingly restored and decorated and has kept the focus on the original features such as the beams and fireplace. Stepping in to The Old Post is like taking a step back in time and guests are encouraged to sit back and enjoy the genuine hospitality on offer and tuck into quality, local produce in traditional, yet elegant, surroundings. The dining room is decorated in timeless monochrome with the Old Post’s signature blue adorning the tables. Softly lit with twinkly fairy lights and pendant lighting, The Old Post is bright in the day time and cosy and intimate in the evenings.
Hugh has worked with celebrity chef Brian Turner and has been awarded several, highly deserved, accolades including Time Out to AA best restaurants. The menu features a mix of classic British as well as more European dishes that range from Roast Rump of Peak Lamb served with boulangere potatoes, puy lentil ragout and roasted cherry tomatoes, to Caramelised red onion, yellow pepper and gruyere roulade with a red pepper coulis and mediterannean vegetables.
You are always sure to receive a warm welcome at The Old Post pub and restaurant in Chesterfield which has many loyal local customers but also welcomes visitors to the Chesterfield area and the Peak District. If you are looking for a taste of Derbyshire, look no further than The Old Post.
