Taking its name from a steam locomotive accident that occurred in Thornton in 1883 is British restaurant The Steam Trumpet. Ideally located just three miles from the M1, off junction 22, it is a truly unique and wonderful village pub and restaurant in the heart of  Thornton, Leicestershire. Located close to the Lady Jack Wood and the reservoir, The Steam Trumpet is the perfect venue to refuel before, or after, a brisk walk.

A traditional looking venue with its white exterior and sky blue windows and doors, The Steam Trumpet is the pinnacle of village life. Inside you will discover a charming mix of contemporary and traditional décor with exposed brick work, wooden beams and a stunning aga combined with neutral paint and simple table settings. The walls are adorned with pub memorabilia that have been collected over the years. The recently refurbished venue has been carefully and considerately restored by the owners back to its former glory. Guests also benefit from a vast al fresco dining area that, in the summer months, is the setting for many barbecues and hog roasts.

The menu is a classic British affair which suits the surroundings perfectly. You can expect to find traditional dishes such as the trio of award winning sausages with creamy mash and onion gravy, or slow braised beef Bouguignon with celeriac mash and seasonal vegetables. As you venture further down the menu you begin to stumble across dishes who have taken their influence from further afield such as Thai style beef stir fry and the popular Gressingham duck breast on a potato rosti with a rich red wine sauce.

As much as The Steam Trumpet is about dining, it is also about drinking and showcases a good selection of hand pulled real ales that can be enjoyed in the cosy lounge or in the fresh air on the patio.

This venue is packed with charm and character and is perfect for any occasion. The al fresco area would be perfect for a party whilst the main dining room is ideal for romantic evening meals, a quick drink and a bite to eat or a hearty pub lunch with friends.
