Serving authentic Italian cuisine in the heart of Northampton town centre since 1995, Sophia’s is a local treasure. Located on Bridge Street just a short walk from the train station and the Grosvenor shopping arcade, it in the perfect position for shoppers, locals and visitors to drop in and enjoy a hearty meal in the warm surroundings.

John Panayis is a warm and friendly host who has over 50 years’ experience in the restaurant business, including a few years spent in America. Stepping in to Sophia’s you receive a warm welcome and are encouraged to take a seat in the homely dining room. Spread across two floors, Sophia’s is more than capable of catering for any size party, with the second floor being the ideal room to host a party. On the ground floor there are superb painted murals on the wall alongside gold framed photographs and paintings as well as squashy comfortable booths and a range of tables ideal for couples up to tables of 6.

Open in the evenings only, Sophia’s has an excellent reputation and a loyal customer base from the local area. The menu is packed with Italian delights, some of which you may recognise and others that will provide an exciting twist to your meal. To start, the tortellini al pesto, meat filled pasta parcels served with a pesto cream sauce; or giant mussels with napoletana sauce and parmesan are both incredibly popular dishes. Pasta and risotto dishes, pizza, meat and fish are all on offer for the main course with the spectacular steak Diane cooked to perfection in front of your very eyes; and the gamberoni con Tagliatelle, a pasta dish with spinach in a Napoletana sauce with juicy king prawns, tender broccoli and mushrooms taking centre stage. All dishes are cooked fresh daily to ensure that guests are enjoying the best possible flavours and ingredients.

John and his team strive to offer food and service to equal any eatery in town, past or present, and John knows that diners, first and foremost, are guests at his venue. You will receive a warm welcome and superb service whether there are just two of your or a group of up to 30 using the upstairs dining room for a private function. Sophia’s Italian restaurant in Northampton promises a superb evening and leaves you feeling looked after from start to finish.
