Northampton’s premier French restaurant, Sacre-bleu, is located on Gold Street in the centre of Northampton. Hidden away from the bustle down a small alley way you are welcomed into the tiny downstairs bar by Hamid, the owner, to sit and enjoy a pre-meal drink and admire the photos of famous diners before meandering upstairs to the main restaurant area.

Many canvases adorn the walls with typically French references including specially commissioned wall hangings that are sure to be a talking point. The furnishings are simple French bistro style and there is a friendly and lively atmosphere perfectly suited to leisurely dining. The late licence allows you to talk the night away over coffee and liqueurs until 3 am if you so choose or you can move outside to the marquee to join one of Hamid’s weekly jazz nights or jam sessions. In summer the sides are removed from the marquee to create an al fresco dining terrace, served from the restaurant.

Renowned for its fantastic French cuisine and lovingly created wine list there is a wide selection of French classics to choose from. Diners can sample the stunning French Onion Soup for starters, or even, if you are feeling adventurous, Frogs Legs Provencale come highly recommended. Sauteed Chateaubriand is one of the most popular items on the menu, but the Tender Fillet Medallions en Croute also make the mouth water: Sliced beef filled with feta cheese, apricots, cream cheese and sautéed mushrooms is cooked in a Wellington style. All dishes are cooked fresh to order, so expect to spend the whole evening enjoying your meal in true European style.
Before moving to Northampton from London Hamid was a professional DJ and chef to the stars( The Spice Girls, U2 and Tom Cruise among them) and he still loves organising parties. His marquee in the rear courtyard of the restaurant is available for special events and receptions and has a dancing licence till 4 am.

Overall

A little difficult to find at first because it's down a little alley way, but once you're inside it's lovely. Very friendly and warm service, generous portion sizes, good wine list. Have booked a table for a party in a few weeks and very much look forwards to it.

We used Sacrebleu to host a party and it was great!! The owner was awesome and very helpful with lots of ideas for the party! On the day we didn't have to do a thing as management took care of everything and the marquee, set up and food was amazing. The service was excellent and the bar staff were fantasitc. Nothing was too much hassle for them. We will be booking this place for parties in the future and I recommend everyone else does the same!!

Overall

The staff on service and the owner were very friendly. Our meal was enjoyed with an extensive wine list - we ordered drank the house white wine and ate two starters, two mains, two puddings and rounded off with 2 coffees. All the food and drink was excellent. I would highly recommend.
