Celebrating 35 years of serving authentic Indian cuisine, The Royal Bengal has a long-standing reputation in Northampton for serving exceptional cuisine. Situated on Bridge Street, this restaurant is just minutes from the Derngate Theatre, making it the perfect venue for a pre-theatre meal.
Abdul Rohim opened The Royal Bengal in 1975 with a small restaurant that was able to seat just forty diners. Following the success of his restaurant, in 1983, Abdul up scaled and moved across the road to the restaurant’s current location; the number of diners they could cater for doubled and the team have enjoyed on-going success alongside a growing, and glowing, reputation. Abdul continues as a chef at the Bengal to this day, whilst running the business alongside his son Mohammed Ahmin.
The restaurant is lavishly decorated with painted wall panels on every wall with images of lions, landscapes and Indian feasts. The restaurant features several round tables, ideal for those looking to share. The tables are laid simply with an extravagant flourish in the form of the artistically folded napkins. The dining room is a good size and tables can be pushed together to seat parties of twenty upwards. It is perfect for those looking for an exquisite Indian meal whether you are in a couple, with family or friends or celebrating a special occasion.
The food is as good now as it was when the restaurant first opened and diners can rest assured that they will only be eating dishes created using the very freshest of ingredients and special blends of herbs and spices. The Chef’s recommendations include the beautiful Butter Chicken; chicken breast fried in butter and cooked in a creamy sauce flavoured with almonds and coconut. For those looking for a main with bite, the Garlic Chicken Tikka Bhuna comes very highly recommended.
As well as the a la carte menu, The Royal Bengal also hosts an incredible value for money all you can night on Sundays and Mondays which offers guests all the flavours of India that they can handle.
